A 400sqm maintenance shed at Lake Hume Resort, 17km east of Albury, has been destroyed by fire despite the efforts of more than 60 firefighters who fought to save it.

NSW Rural Fire Service Inspector Ben Shepherd said emergency services were called to the resort at 9.19pm on Monday night.

He said while one shed was destroyed, there was another full of mattresses next to it that had been saved.

“The fire was contained by 10.30pm and declared out by about 1am this morning,” Inspector Shepherd said.

“There were some concerns for asbestos so we’ve liaising with council and the EPA about any potential pollution run off into the lake.”

He said it was not yet clear what had caused the blaze but no one was injured from it.
