A North Albury man has applied for bail after allegedly stabbing a boy in the head during a neighbourhood feud.
Jake James McEwan appeared in Albury Local Court via video link on Monday to apply for bail after being charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, affray, and using an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence.
Police will allege Mr McEwan, 25, stabbed a 17-year-old boy to the left side of the head with a metal file during a feud on Corella St, North Albury, on February 17.
Mr McEwan’s defence solicitor said the accused suffered from an intellectual disability, anxiety, and depression, for which he needed to be in the community to seek treatment.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Nicole Peacock said there was adequate support for people in custody seeking mental health treatment.
Magistrate Richard Funston refused Mr McEwan bail to appear again on April 20.
Mr McEwan’s co-accused Lisa Quayle was also due to appear in Albury Local Court on Monday, but she contacted the court seeking an adjournment as she had to move house.
“The court hasn’t come down in the last shower, she could have told them she had court and would move house another day,” Mr Funston said.
Ms Quayle, 42, was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest during the same incident at Corella St on February 17.
Court documents allege that while a female senior constable was trying to arrest Mr McEwan, Ms Quayle put both her arms out to stop the police officer saying: “You’re not arresting him, f------ kids in there you f------ dogs. You f------ c----.”
When the police officer attempted to pass, Ms Quayle allegedly pushed her into the wall of the house.
When another female constable came to assist, Ms Quayle allegedly punched her in the nose.
A male senior constable then tried to arrest Ms Quayle when she allegedly resisted, causing them both to fall to the ground.
