An autistic four-year-old callously left on a southern NSW roadway with head injuries after a horror hit and run is fighting for life in a Melbourne hospital, a heartbroken family friend has revealed.

Four-year-old Dakiri Hullick was left with serious injuries after a hit and run incident on Friday morning in Albury.

It comes after police launched an extensive probe into the incident, with officers revealing on Monday a vehicle has been seized for forensic examination. To date, no one has been charged over the collision.

Emergency services were called to Dick Rd, Lavington, at about 7am after Dakiri, who is non-verbal and autistic, was struck by the car before the driver allegedly fled the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the young child for suspected head injuries, before he was taken to Albury Hospital for further treatment.

He was later moved south to a hospital in Melbourne, where he remains days later, tubed and wearing a spinal collar, with his mother Ricki Hullick by his bedside.

Family friend Fiona Kane launched a GoFundMe fundraiser in the wake of the horrific incident in a bid to raise funds for the “beautiful boy” and his family.

She said the money raised would be used for accommodation, food, fuel and general cost of living.

“My love for the entire Hullick family is my reason for setting this page up,” Ms Kane wrote.

“Ricki and family will have to stay in Melbourne for some time and I’m asking if anyone can please help.”

NSW Police continue to investigate the incident, with a Holden Commodore ute seized on Saturday as part of ongoing inquiries.

“Officers attached to Riverina Crash Investigation Unit and Albury detectives – with ongoing assistance from Victoria Police – have seized a Holden utility in Wodonga on Saturday, as part of an investigation into a hit and run in Albury, on Friday,” a NSW Police spokesman said.

“The vehicle will undergo forensic examination; however, no arrests have been made over the incident.”

Police urge anyone with dashcam footage of streets around Dick Rd, Lavington, around the time of the incident to come forward.
