Police have warned Albury-Wodonga residents to remain vigilant as a man responsible for two armed robberies remains on the run.

The man, described as between 185cm-195cm wearing a black jacket and silver and black bike helmet, held up two service stations early Saturday.

Police said he used a gun to demand and steal cash at the United Petroleum service station on McKoy St about 4.15am on Saturday before fleeing on a motorbike.

Later, about 4.40am, police said he threatened an attendant with a shortened rifle at BP service station on Travel Stop Way, stealing cash and cigarettes.

Murray River Police District Detective Chief Inspector Mick Stoltenberg said Albury police were working closely with Wodonga police to catch the offender.

“It was a very short period of time in the lead up to what happened at Travel Stop Way, after a strikingly similar incident happened at a service station in Wodonga,” DCI Stoltenberg said.

“We’re working very closely with our counterparts across the border, we’re sharing a lot of information with each other.

“This is something we’re both extremely eager to get wrapped up and solved as soon as possible.”

DCI Stolenberg said there was still some risk of danger while this person remained at large.

“Desperate people do desperate things,” he said.

“We’re not talking about rational normal people, we’re talking about what I consider low-lives, to go in and do this sort of thing for the sake of whatever amount of money and property they got out of it.

“We can’t tolerate it.”

DCI Stoltenberg urged anyone with any information, whether it be CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward and contact Crimestoppers.
