$104m boost to Hume Freeway project
The Hume Freeway will get an extra $104 million boost as part of the Federal Government’s 2020-21 budget set to be handed down on Tuesday night.

The McKoy St intersection with the Hume Freeway in Wodonga will received another $104 million in funding from the Federal Government as part of the 2020-21 budget due to be announced on Tuesday night.
The Federal Government initially injected $64 million into the project at last year’s Federal election, the State Government provided a total of $68 million in funding, and the new cash boost will bring the total value of the project to $210 million.
The Hume Freeway through Wodonga has been upgraded to a National Road of Strategic Importance.
Liberal Party Senator Jane Hume said the project was critically important at this time to grow jobs in the border region.
“This project is expected to create over 520 local jobs, so critically important right now as the border region recovers from the economic impacts of the bushfires, COVID-19 and the challenges the border closure has brought about,” she said.
“This project will also have long-term economic implications, with upgraded freeway access meaning road transport can move safer and more efficiently through Wodonga, which we know is a transport hub between Melbourne and Sydney.”
