Aussie wrestling powerhouse Rhea Ripley will enter Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view as the hot favourite to win the women’s rumble.

The 26-year-old from Adelaide is the popular choice among fans to win the 30-woman rumble match and head to WrestleMania 39 to challenge for either the Raw or Smackdown Women’s Championship.

Ripley is only one of seven women confirmed for the rumble match, with the WWE expected to bring back retired stars to fill the remaining slots.

Ripley’s popularity among fans has skyrocketed in the past six months after she joined The Judgement Day faction.

She is also rumoured to become just the fourth woman in history to appear in the men’s rumble match later in the night.

She has been involved in several major storylines in the last year, including rivalries with WWE legends Rey Mysterio and Edge and recruiting Rey’s son Dominik into the Judgement Day faction.

Ripley has competed in four rumble matches and finished second in the 2021 event to Bianca Belair.

The aim in the rumble is for competitors to eliminate their opponents by tossing them out of the ring over the top rope.

Two wrestlers start in the ring and a new competitor enters every 90 seconds.

The match has traditionally been used for shocking returns and the launch of new storylines.

Cody Rhodes, son of WWE legend Dusty Rhodes, is the favourite to win the Men’s Royal Rumble.

The Rock is also rumoured to make a shock return to wrestling at the event.

It has been speculated that the Rock will win the men’s rumble and go on to his face his cousin Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE championship at WrestleMania.

The pay-per-view will be streamed from noon on Sunday, January 29 on Binge, with subscriptions starting from $10 a month.
