Chadstone’s new office tower has its first big name tenant, with a popular homewares chain to move its national headquarters to Melbourne’s ever-growing shopping mecca.
Adairs, which has more than 170 stores across Australia and New Zealand, is taking up more than a quarter of the 20,000sq m, nine-storey tower that is set to be finished in 2024.
As part of its deal, finalised with agents Colliers, Adairs has secured 5500sq m of office and studio space, and will have access to premium facilities in the tower including the outdoor sky garden and its business lounge.
Adairs’ managing director and chief executive Mark Ronan said the company, based at Carribean Business Park in Scoresby, was excited about the move and creating an amenity-rich working environment for its staff.
“We are looking forward to providing our customer support office team with a modern, functional and sustainable workplace at one of the best locations in Melbourne,” Mr Ronan said.
“At One Middle Rd, our team will have easy access to our store, first-class facilities and the
convenience of all that Chadstone shopping centre has to offer.”
The office tower was approved by Stonnington Council as part of Chadstone’s $485m expansion plans in July 2020, and works kicked off earlier this year.
Leader understands the tower is already 50 per cent leased to Adairs and other businesses and clients.
Carolyn Viney, chief development officer for centre co-owners Vicinity, said the tower would also boast childcare and wellness services, in an effort to support “employers’ desire to offer the best in work-life balance”.
“As part of our mixed-use strategy, we’re bringing CBD-quality workplaces to our suburban retail centres, delivering outstanding amenity and an exceptional experience without the commute,” she said.
Prior to the tower being completed, Officeworks will move into a refurbished building at Chadstone Place, which will become the office supplies giant’s new corporate headquarters from next year.
Work is also progressing on Chadstone’s new entertainment precinct and foodie hub, The Social Quarter, which is set to open sometime this summer.
