Firestorm survivor Turia Pitt is being hailed as a trailblazer after opening up about a personal struggle and the brave steps she’s taken to combat it.

Turia Pitt's advice to help those struggling with mental health

Firestorm survivor Turia Pitt has been inundated with messages of support after revealing she suffered from burnout last year.

The 37-year-old – who was caught in a grassfire in 2011 in Western Australia and sustained burns to 65 per cent of her body – posted a series of photos on Instagram detailing her struggle with the condition and the steps she was taking to combat it.

“I’m still a work in progress and it’s ok if you are too,” she captioned the album posted on Monday.

“Last year I had burnout. Here’s what I did about,” she then wrote in the first slide accompanied with a mirror selfie.

“Started being honest with myself about my disability and how it impacts my work, parenting and relationships.

“Worked on having better boundaries to protect my mana (my power).

“Understood the importance of completing the ‘stress cycle’ (highly recommend Burnout by Amelia and Emily Nagoski about this).”

Pitt then opened up about the importance of unlearning “the idea that my worth comes from how productive I am”.

“Recognised that I couldn’t ‘do it all’ and started doing less,” she added.

Pitt then revealed she started seeing a psychologist.

“Recognised that just like I look after people in my life, I’m worthy of looking after too,” she wrote.

The deeply personal post received more than 8000 likes and hundreds of comments as many well wishers commended her on speaking out about burn out.

“Amen, how true is this! Another helpful thing I find is try not to compare myself to other woman. We all have different limitations and values and what works for one may not for another. Always loving reading your truths,” one person wrote.

“You are an amazing trailblazer,” another commented.

In 2023, Turia Pitt revealed she had a growth removed from her tongue, and urged people to “stop putting things off” when it came to their health.

And it’s not the first time Pitt has shared an important health message.

In 2023, she opened up about a shock health scare, revealing she had a growth removed from her tongue, and urged people to “stop putting things off” when it came to their health.

“I used to have this really weird growth on my tongue that I recently got cut out,” Pitt said at the time.

Pitt was caught in a grass fire while running an ultra-marathon in the Kimberley region of WA in 2011.

Her nose took priority during her recovery, as did her skin and hands in the 200 or so operations she had over the past 10 years.
