A Queensland fashion influencer renowned for empowering women over size 12 has opened up about copping criticism from her followers and the pressure to explain her changing body.

Natalie Angel, who is known for her Let Me Try Before You Buy social media pages, recently faced a wave of discontent from followers who said they feel “unrepresented”.

Ms Angel partners with various brands, personally trying on a spectrum of sizes to ensure her audience can make informed purchases that fit.

Her journey began after a traumatic emergency C-section birth of her son, leaving her feeling unrecognisable and struggling with her wardrobe choices.

More than 229,000 women flock to Ms Angel’s content but she recently faced negative comments from fans questioning her “shifting message”.

“You were once a genuine advocate for body positivity and plus-size prid ……. shifting your message makes you blend into the crowd of influencers chasing the latest trend,” a commenter said on her page.

Another said “I no longer feel that you are experiencing the challenges out there for curvy women.”

Ms Angel addressed the “negativity” in a candid video, in which she also confirmed she was also using a prescription weight loss medication.

“There has been a lot of conversation around my weigh ……. I have been actively trying to lose weight,” she told her viewers.

“My husband and I are actually doing it together. We’ve noticed our lifestyle and how that is impacting our son.”

In an exclusive chat with The Sunday Mail, Ms Angel said it wasn’t her first rodeo in terms of criticism of her appearance.

“Even when I was a size 18, I was told I’m not an 18, there’s no way you’re an 18. And so then I started to lose weight, and then I was getting negative comments around, oh you’ve lost weight,” she said.

“I think, when you’re on social media, yeah, and that’s your profession, I think you need to have a different expectation than, say, the everyday woman who is a teacher or has a different profession. So I think that it’s fair that people have something to say about my body.”

Ms Angel said regardless of her size she remained committed to representing her followers, no matter how her body changes.

“That conversation is still the same, regardless of if I’m a size 14 or a size 16,” she said.

“No matter what size I am, whether I’m gaining weight or whether I am losing weight, there’s always negativit

“I think the more that we can talk about it, because the reasons that I wanted to lose weight could be completely different to somebody else.”

A number of celebrities known for their body positive stance have faced similar criticism from fans in recent years.

All About That Bass singer Meghan Tranior faced backlash from fans after changing the lyrics to the hit anthem from Yeah it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size two” to Yeah, it’s pretty clear, I got some new boobs” at a live show.

Lizzo, who rose to fame as a voice for bigger women, was slammed by fans after appearing slimmer online and opening up about transforming her lifestyle including increasing workouts.

Ms Angel began her career with a buy, swap, and sell group in 2019, and has grown her brand into a bustling online community empowering women size 12 and up to shop online with confidence.
