Time to stiffen up and take matters into your own hands, fellas
Men who do this 21 times or more a month can lower their risk of prostate cancer.
Men’s health is in their own hands - literally.
Esteemed scientists have found that regular ejaculation can significantly reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer.
So this November as well as growing a moustache to support Movember it’s okay to be a big jerk.
The Harvard study, tracking nearly 32,000 men over 18 years, found those who ejaculated 21 or more times a month had a 31 percent lower risk of developing prostate cancer than those who did so less frequently.
“We often talk about exercise, or a good diet as key drivers of health outcomes. This research shows that ejaculation should be in that conversation too,” Nicola Relph, owner and operator of Adulttoymegastore said.
“Masturbation and sex has never been just about pleasure. They’re linked to better physical and mental wellbeing; lowering stress, improving mood and sleep, and even reducing blood pressure,” she said.
“Adding protection against prostate cancer to that list is no small matter.”
Cancer Australia finds prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men, affecting one in 6 during their lifetime. Each year, 25,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer — that’s 69 Aussie blokes a day.
The science suggests that ejaculation may help flush out potentially harmful substances from the prostate. Combined with other healthy habits — such as regular check-ups, exercise and awareness of warning signs — Australian men can play a part in reducing the shocking statistic.
As Movember looms closer, and men across the nation are confronting barriers, issues, and uncomfortable conversations surrounding their overall health, it feels like the perfect time to add sexual health to the agenda.
“If sexual release can be part of maintaining good prostate health, then it’s important we embrace it openly without embarrassment or stigma,” Ms Relph said.
“Anything that reduces your chances of cancer feels like time well-spent. How’s that for an incentive to skip No Nut November?”
Concerningly, research reveals prostate cancer cases are set to double by 2040 worldwide, with deaths said to increase by 85 percent too.
