Why Collingwood captain Darcy Moore and Triple J girlfriend Dee Salmin haven’t moved in together

The Collingwood captain’s girlfriend has revealed why the pair haven’t moved in together and will have separate bedrooms when they do, and its all to do with fending off “heteronormative learned patriarch behaviours”.

Kane Cornes doubles down on scathing Darcy Moore criticism

One thing is certain, Collingwood captain Darcy Moore and his Triple J girlfriend Dee Salmin aren’t sleeping together or moving in anytime soon.

Not because their relationship has hit the skids, or they are splitting up mind you, it’s just they don’t want to conform to “heteronormative learned patriarch behaviours”.

And if the progressive couple ever do decide to make the next big step and move in, they will be sleeping in separate bedrooms.

Dee Salmin, a presenter on Triple J’s The Hook Up, revealed on her show this week she worries about how much independence a woman can lose when making the decision to move in together with her partner.

“I don’t live with my partner at the moment and we both have such different independent busy lives,” Salmin said.

“We get to have so much of what we had when we were single still in our relationship. But I wonder how much you can actually upkeep that when you do end up living together.

“So much of it is just hetero dynamic patriarch learned behaviours that you might fall into.”

Former radio host and We Need to Talk about female health and sexuality author Yumi Stynes was a guest on the show and praised Salmin for her not wanting to end up in “domestic drudgery”, which Stynes pointed out is “not sexy”, adding separate sleeping quarters as “hot."

Stynes put the question to Salmin asking if she thought “we should all live separately to our partners?”

“I’m going to be doing it for as long as possible,” Salmin laughed before adding “I also said to my partner we are going to have separate bedrooms.”

Salmin is certainly not the only star to endorse separate bedroom situations.

Sunrise host Edwina Bartholomew last year revealed she sleeps in a separate bed to her husband while adding it hasn’t affected their sex life.

The Channel 7 star says having a different bedroom to her husband Neil Varcoe is “the secret to our happy marriage” – pointing out that it had not, er, stopped them from having two children.

Bartholomew, 39, said they started sleeping separately about seven years ago.

“When I would get up for work, he would struggle to get back to sleep, so we decided to trial separate rooms,” she wrote in a column for News Corp Australia.

“When we had kids, it continued. I would sleep overnight with the baby in my room and then he would wake up early to take over. Ten years into our relationship and five years into our marriage, it works a charm.”

The TV presenter said friends are sometimes left “shocked” when they enter their house to find two bedrooms set up.

Back to Salmin who said she feels separate bedrooms could help maintain a sense of independence.

“Your partner can’t be everything,” she said, in a refreshing response to the normal cookie cutter WAG model.

“It’s so important, it is something you really need to make sure you are taking care of and working on.

“You need places to be that are completely yourself outside of your partner.

“Sometimes having a separate bedroom – obviously cost of living can make it not possible — but finding ways to still have your independence is super important.”

While many will no doubt call their reasoning a product of the “woke” brigade, the top Collingwood couple are not necessarily that progressive when it comes to separate living situations.

Prior to the 1950s, separate beds were commonly considered the preferred and healthier sleeping option for couples, but were later regarded as a sign of a broken marriage.

Other celebrity couples such as David and Victoria Beckham, Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden, Tim Burton and former wife Helena Bonham Carter and Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Brad Falchuk have been reported to sleep apart, with the Beckhams having separate “his and her sleeping wings” in their London home. Because of course.

The Queen and Prince Philip famously slept apart as do, perhaps not so surprisingly, Donald and Melania Trump.

Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera took it one step further, keeping different houses separated by a bridge.

It reminded Page 13 of the Melbourne housewife married to a household name who also kept separate houses, when her husband was in need of some catch up time, he would ring to ask, hopefully “are you in residence tonight?”.
