Whoopi Goldberg slammed by former View co-star Meghan McCain

Whoopi Goldberg has been slammed for her “bizarre, incoherent, and even dangerous” comments by a former View co-star.

Whoopi Goldberg's Holocaust remarks 'basically said' Hitler 'wasn't racist'

Meghan McCain has chimed in with her own thoughts on former The View colleague Whoopi Goldberg‘s controversial assertion that the Holocaust “isn’t about race.”

“I hate commenting on my old employer because I have moved in every way a person can move on,” McCain wrote on Twitter. “That being said I am an activist against antisemitism and it is a big part of my life. The growing threat is real and virulent and everywhere. I am heartbroken about what was said.”

McCain also addressed Goldberg’s “bizarre, incoherent, and even dangerous” comments in the February 1 edition of her Daily Mail column.

“I am not calling for Whoopi Goldberg to be fired, if only because I don’t believe there is any universe where she could possibly do anything that could get her fired — she is the crown jewel of The View and a pop culture icon,” she wrote.

McCain continued: “I hope this can be used as a teachable moment to explain to millions of Americans why conflating the Holocaust as something that is specific and limited to ‘white people’ is insane, ahistorical and anti-Semitic.”

Earlier this week, Goldberg sparked backlash after claiming that the Holocaust was about “man’s inhumanity to man” and “two groups of white people.” Although co-hosts Joy Behar and Ana Navaro tried to correct her, she stuck to her argument.

Goldberg later apologised for her comments on social media and on the show itself.

“[The Holocaust] is, indeed, about race, because Nazis considered Jews to be an inferior race,” Goldberg said on Tuesday’s episode. “Words matter, and mine are no exception. I regret my comments, as I said, and I stand corrected.”

Later that day, ABC News president Kim Godwin announced that Goldberg had been suspended from The View for two weeks in order to “take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments.”

“The entire ABC News organisation stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities,” Godwin said.
