The NGV Gala is fast becoming one of the most coveted red carpets events in the country, with each year becoming bigger and better than the last, especially in the fashion world. Here’s what the stars will be wearing on this year’s red carpet.

The NGV Gala is fast becoming one of the most coveted red carpets events in the country with model sisters Georgia May and Lizzy Jagger jetting in from New York for the opening tonight.
They lead a glamour guest list that includes actresses Maggie McKenna, Isabella Giovinazzo, Bella Heathcote and Phoebe Tonkin, models Andreja Pejic, Akiima and Megan Gale, as well as high profile WAGs Rebecca Judd, Jesse Murphy and Brit Davis.
The inclusion of the Jagger sisters, daughters of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, is a nod to the New York theme of the gala and brings some international style to the opening of the Crossing Lines exhibition featuring the work of influential New York artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Celebrity stylist Lana Wilkinson says the NGV Gala is a key event on the fashion calendar and an opportunity to showcase local designers on a world stage.
“I think for the fashion industry, it’s very significant. It’s where art and fashion collide and an opportunity for creatives to come together and showcase various talents,” she says.
“I think the first year in particular with the Dior Exhibition it was very much next level from a fashion perspective. I think as each year rolls by, it will be bigger and greater than the last. We’ve seen this with events such as the Brownlow and Logies.”
Wilkinson is dressing Megan Gale in a custom Cappellazzo Couture gown and Brit Davis in stunning Paolo Sebastian.
Isabel Lucas, a special guest of Mimco, is excited to be attending the event and being dressed by red carpet favourite Jason Grech and accessories by Mimco.
“I’m passionate about celebrating art and culture at every opportunity I get, especially in a city like Melbourne and the NGV Gala really provides us all with an opportunity to do that. It’ll also be fun to see Salt n Pepa – I’ve never seen them live before and I can’t wait to watch and listen to them in the flesh,” she says.
Wilkinson says the NGV Gala red carpet is a great forum for designers to exhibit their work, which often leads to international opportunities.
“The power of Instagram is a force, a tool that enables our designers to showcase their talent on a virtual international stage. I love this type of event for local designers, almost guaranteed to get a phone call tomorrow from international stylists. For some, it can be their big break,” she says.

Melbourne stylist Suzy Eskander, who is dressing Pejic, McKenna, Akiima and actress Tasia Zalar, agrees the event leads to greater opportunities for local designers.
“It’s a significant event on the social calendar giving bespoke couture designers a chance to create some beautiful custom pieces and also ready to wear Australian designers to sell off the rack red carpet dresses to all those attending the Gala which is very important for local designers,” she says.
