Wentworth takes out big prize at ASTRAs

MELBOURNE-made drama Wentworth was the big winner at the ASTRA Awards - the pay TV version of the Logies.

MELBOURNE-made drama Wentworth was the big winner at the ASTRA Awards in Sydney.

The awards are the pay TV industry’s version of the Logies.

Wentworth lead Nicole da Silva took out the Most Outstanding Performance by an Actor — Female, and the show won the Most Outstanding Australian Drama ASTRA.

A third series of the show was recently given the green light.

Other winners included:

AUSTRALIA’S Next Top Model won the Most Outstanding Reality Program ASTRA, a big win for new host Jennifer Hawkins.

CHANNEL Of The Year was awarded to Showcase, on the back of strong American imports Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and House of Cards.

MIKE Sheahan had a big win, taking out the ASTRA for the Most Outstanding Sports Entertainment Program for his Fox Footy show Open Mike.

MELBOURNE-based Shaynna Blaze had a big night, not only hosting the show but also winning the Favourite Personality - Female, ASTRA.

THE late Charlotte Dawson received a posthumous honours ASTRA for her exceptional contribution to the Subscription Television Industry.

POPULAR real estate show Selling Houses Australia was once again one the Favourite Program - Australian ASTRA.

The awards this year were held at Sydney venue Carriageworks for the first time.
