Controversial Married At First Sight bride Jacqui has copped backlash from viewers for her “nightmare” behaviour in last night’s episode, in which she broke down in tears after her ‘husband’ Ryan refused to shave his beard.
Sydney-based consultant Jacqui, who has proved to be one of the most colourful characters on this year’s MAFS, welcomed Ryan to her home in Manly for the Channel 9 show’s ‘homestays week’ in scenes aired Monday, and it’s fair to say their hot-and-cold dynamic translated into the outside world.
Shortly after settling into Jacqui’s modest digs on the northern beaches, the TV bride decided to inform Ryan his beard “wasn’t very manly”, before jokingly threatening to shave it off while he slept.
When Ryan refused to alter his appearance to suit her preferences, Jacqui broke down in hysterical tears, accusing her partner of failing to compromise.
“Ryan’s beard is annoying me because I’ve experienced an unwillingness to compromise on every single little thing that’s ever popped up in our relationship,” she sobbed in a piece-to-camera.
“And I’m really frustrated with about the way Ryan is so attached to his identity as a man.”
She then proceeded to tell Ryan, to his face, his “brain is small”.

Cut to the couple attempting to ease tensions by visiting a local florist (it’s well known at this point Jacqui hoped for a partner who would regularly buy her flowers), where Jacqui selects a bouquet of $113 roses to take home.
After some awkward silence at the checkout, Ryan concedes he’s up for the tab, handing over his credit card as Jacqui starts sobbing happy tears.
While viewers have come to expect such “bizarre” encounters from the divisive couple, many felt Jacqui’s insistence on changing Ryan’s physical appearance had finally crossed a line, pointing out how unacceptable it would be if the roles were reversed.
“Jacqui can’t dictate how he looks. She can have preferences, but his body his choice, etc. I’d be sayin the same thing if Ryan said she could never cut her hair or whatever,” one user wrote on X.
“Jacqui seems to think the word ‘compromise’ means Ryan just doing whatever she wants him to do,” another wrote, adding, “What if Ryan told you he wants you to cut your hair really short & dye it pink … you willing to do that Jacqui?”
“Why don’t you try going bald Jacqui,” a third quipped.
“Jacqui is such an irregular person she exists in an alternate reality,” a fourth said.
Another was convinced both Jacqui and Ryan had to be “paid actors”, saying, “The producers are punking us all now.”
Unsurprisingly, Jacqui and Ryan don’t end up together after the show, which officially comes to an end in April.
It’s been widely reported Jacqui is now dating fellow MAFS groom Clint, a wealthy, retired golfer from Tasmania. The pair have been photographed together on a number of occasions over the past month.
Jacqui broke her contract with Channel 9 in February to reveal she had been dating someone else since the show wrapped.
“I am currently in a relationship with a person who was exactly what I asked for – someone kind, considerate, a great man, and intelligent,” she wrote alongside a smiling selfie.
“Sometimes miracles happen because today I am in fact happy and in a loving long term relationship!”
She has also uploaded several photos of herself at Clint’s sprawling mansion.
