Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News.
With a new broadcaster, a new location, and a host for the first time in a decade, there’s an air of excited anticipation about the 63rd TV Week Logies.
What hasn’t changed is the glitz and glam as the cream of Australian TV gather to honour their most popular personalities and highest achievers.
Popular Goggleboxers Adam Densten and Symon Lovett, who have notched up hours on their couch watching TV and joke “after a bang on year (in 2022) where we obviously got 100 per cent of our (pre-Logie) tips right” have joined again with National Entertainment Writer Lisa Woolford to comb through the popular nominees who will be decided by public vote.
GOLD LOGIE
Hamish Blake (Lego Masters Australia)
Julia Morris (I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here, Taskmaster)
Leigh Sales (7.30 & Australian Story)
Mark Coles Smith (Mystery Road: Origin)
Osher Günsberg (The Bachelors Australia and The Masked Singer Australia)
Shaun Micallef (Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell)
Sonia Kruger (The Voice, Dancing With The Stars & Big Brother)
LW: It’s hard to go past picking Hamish to go back-to-back, but Leigh Sales has a mighty – and passionate – podcast following. Affectionately known as The Chatters, they might just cause an upset for the night’s top award.
A & S: The only person who could realistically beat Hamish is God (and they’d probably have to rig it to win anyway).
SILVER LOGIE FOR MOST POPULAR ACTOR
James Stewart (Home And Away)
Lincoln Younes (After The Verdict, The Last King of The Cross & Barons)
Mark Coles Smith (Mystery Road: Origin)
Patrick Brammall (Colin from Accounts & Summer Love)
Ray Meagher (Home And Away)
Sam Neill (The Twelve)
LW: Much as I’d love a flamin’ heck from Ray “Alf Stewart” Meagher, Patrick Brammall should get this for co-creating, co-writing and co-starring with his real-life wife Harriet Dyer in the hilarious Colin from Accounts
A & S: Patrick Brammall – Best. Show. Of. The. Year. Deserves to win all the awards for which it is nominated.
SILVER LOGIE FOR MOST POPULAR ACTRESS
Ada Nicodemou (Home And Away)
Celeste Barber (Wellmania)
Emily Symons (Home And Away)
Julia Zemiro (Fisk)
Kitty Flanagan (Fisk)
Lynne McGranger (Home And Away)
LW: The three Summer Bay alumni are likely to cancel each other out, Celeste Barber with her huge social media following – 9.5m on Instagram – could just snatch her first-ever Logie.
A & S: Anyone who wears a brown suit like Kitty Flanagan on TV deserves the win. And there’s nothing like a car crash character to make you feel like you’ve got your life in order.
BERT NEWTON AWARD FOR MOST POPULAR PRESENTER
Julia Morris (I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here)
Scott Cam (The Block)
Shaun Micallef (Mad as Hell)
Sonia Kruger (The Voice, Dancing With The Stars & Big Brother)
Tony Armstrong (A Dog’s World with Tony Armstrong)
LW: Hamish, again, would have to be favourite to add this to his ever-increasing haul of awards, but it would be nice for Micallef to win for his final season of Mad as Hell.
A & S: Tony Armstrong – find us someone in Australia who doesn’t like Tony Armstrong and I’ll find you a liar.
GRAHAM KENNEDY AWARD FOR MOST POPULAR NEW TALENT
Amy Shark (Australian Idol)
Ayesha Madon (Heartbreak High)
Chloe Hayden (Heartbreak High)
Flex Mami (Love Island Australia)
Kween Kong (RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under)
Lilliana Bowrey (Surviving Summer)
LW: Let’s just crown Kween Kong now.
A & S: We met Amy Shark once and she was very popular with us and we feel like if we don’t pick her, she’ll judge our singing when we sing on TV. Harshly.
MOST POPULAR DRAMA SERIES, MINISERIES OR TELEMOVIE
Heartbreak High (Netflix)
Home And Away (Seven)
Mystery Road: Origin (ABC)
Savage River (ABC)
The Twelve (Binge/Foxtel)
Underbelly: Vanishing Act (Nine)
LW: The Twelve will nab a heap of outstanding awards, but in terms of popularity, Summer Bay would have to be the favourites to make it a baker’s dozen in this category.
A & S: We’ve always wanted to do jury duty. And we’d love Sam Neill to be our grandpa, so it’s got to be The Twelve.
MOST POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM
AGT (Seven)
Gogglebox Australia (Foxtel/Network 10)
Gruen (ABC)
Hard Quiz (ABC)
LEGO Masters Australia (Nine)
The Voice Australia (Seven)
LW: Tom Gleeson – who’s missed out on individual noms – is campaigning HARD. And we know how well that’s worked for him in the past. Hard Quiz by a nose.
A & S: Gogglebox Australia – if you don’t love yourself first, no one will.
MOST POPULAR COMEDY PROGRAM
Fisk Series 2 (ABC)
Have You Been Paying Attention? (Ten)
Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell (ABC)
The Front Bar (Seven)
The Hundred with Andy Lee (Nine)
Wellmania (Netflix)
LW: HYBPA is reigning supreme on Monday nights, so I’m tipping a hat-trick for Tom Gleisner, Ed Kavalee and Sam Pang … plus how fun will it be to see Pang swap from host to recipient.
A & S: See comment about wearing brown suits above – Fisk Season 2 gets our vote.
MOST POPULAR REALITY PROGRAM
Farmer Wants A Wife (Seven)
Hunted Australia (Ten)
I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! (Ten)
Married At First Sight (Nine)
MasterChef Australia: Fans & Favourites (Ten)
The Block (Nine)
LW: The shock loss of MasterChef judge Jock Zonfrillo in April should see a swell of sentimental voting for the beloved cooking show.
A & S: We choose to abstain from the vote based on the fact that we love all reality and it’s great Gogglebox fodder, so long may it reign.
MOST POPULAR LIFESTYLE PROGRAM
A Dog’s World With Tony Armstrong (ABC)
Back Roads (ABC)
Better Homes and Gardens (Seven)
Gardening Australia (ABC)
Selling Houses Australia (Foxtel)
Travel Guides (Nine)
LW: Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, it would be splendid for the Selling Houses Australia team to finally get their hands on a trophy.
A & S: Travel Guides – C’mon, it’s the job we all want isn’t it? Even better than sitting on a couch watching TV.
The 63rd TV Week Logie Awards, Sunday, Red Carpet, 7pm, ceremony, 7.30pm, Seven and 7Plus
Gogglebox returns August 16, 7.30pm on Foxtel and August 17, 8.30pm on Ten.
HOW LOGIE VOTING WORKS
The public has the ultimate say on who takes home the popular Logie Awards, after new voting rules were adopted last year.
All TV networks were again invited to submit candidates for each of the 13 Most Popular Awards, including the Gold Logie.
A combination of TV ratings, Nielsen social content ratings and the views of TV Week’s panel of experts were weighed to determine the final six nominees in all categories, and seven for the TV Week Gold Logie.
The public can vote for their favourites until the end of the Red Carpet coverage on Sunday night. And, for the first time, voting for the Gold Logie will continue throughout the award ceremony, closing at 10.30pm.
Simply head to https://vote.tvweeklogies.com.au/ to cast your vote.
