Sunrise star Sam Mac in mourning after ‘troll’ and ‘friend of the show’ Carol Embleton dies

Channel 7’s Sunrise was in mourning today following the death of a “dear friend of the show”.

Sam Mac and the crew of Channel 7’s Sunrise were in mourning today following the death of a “dear friend of the show”.

Carol Embleton - who would regularly ‘troll’ Sam during his weather segments - died over the weekend.

Sam shared the sad news on the show on Friday.

He said: “A dear friend of our show, Carol, who I’m sure many of our viewers will know exactly who I’m talking about by just that one name, Carol.

“She wrote many years ago to me about wearing the colour ‘dirty green’ and she became a character. She had such an amazing sense of humour.

“Sadly, she passed away over the weekend.”

Sam then played clips of Carol teasing Sam and showing off the best of her cheeky personality.

The weather presenter added that Carol “was a very special person” who remained in touch with the team every week, despite her health battles.

Retiree Carol would often ‘troll’ Sam, and wrote on one of his Instagram posts last year that his green shirt was “bloody awful” and “horrible”.

He later hilariously confronted her over her trolling, and they became good friends.

Sam had only recently taken a few days off following the death of his pet cat, Coco.

The star had to put his rescue cat down after coming home fron holiday to find her seriously unwell.

“Today has been one of the worst days of my life,” he said in a video last Saturday.

“I got home from Canada earlier this morning and when I opened the door, Coco was slumped over against the wall, her legs weren’t functioning, her eyes were closed, she was still breathing, but she was in a really bad way.

“It was extremely confronting.”

Sam said Coco “was an important part of my life, a real shining light, one of the best things to ever happen to me”.

“She’s made me so happy, she’s my best little buddy, she’s always been there for the last 13 years,” he added.
