Stranger Things 3 drops first full trailer

The citizens of Hawkins, Indiana has much to fear if this first full trailer for Stranger Things 3 is anything to go by.

Trailer: Stranger Things Season 3

You’ve already waited over a year and you have to wait another three-and-a-half months, but it’s getting so tantalisingly close.

Until July 4, when the new season of Stranger Things finally hits, Netflix has released the first full trailer to feed your addiction.

It may not be the dose you desperately need, but it’s better than nothing.

Returning to Hawkins, Indiana and our core gang, now expanded to six with Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will and Max, the trailer tells us what we already know to be the absolute truth: No one is safe.

These kids will not be allowed to have a normal childhood with hangs at the shopping centre and fun fairs with bright lights and rides.

The supernatural threat remains and now it looks like a massive fleshy monster with a load of teeth, spikes and bloody viscosity all over its body.

We get a much better look at the Hawkins mall where much of the action will happen, and there’s a shot of Eleven and the gang sitting in either the food court or in the cinema lobby with shattered glass all around them — obviously mid or post-battle.

Scored by “Home Sweet Home” by Mötley Crüe and “Baba O’Reilly” by The Who, you know we’re in for more 80s nostalgia — the fashion has been seriously dialled up with the 1985 time-jump, with big shoulders and giant scrunchies on display.

Also glimpsed in the trailer:

— The six kids erecting a makeshift antenna in a field

— Cary Elwes declaring happy Fourth of July at the fair — is he the mayor?

— Jake Busey looking deranged and sweaty

— A figure in a breathing mask, like those old-fashioned nuclear suits, being blasted by electricity bolts

— Eleven and Max indulging in some girl time

— Maya Hawke as new character Robin with Steve at an ice cream shop

— Charlie and Nancy in grown-up clothes and sitting in chairs outside an office, looking apprehensive

— A male figure, possibly Billy, in the shower with what looks to be a seriously infected arm

— Eleven back in that dark, wet place

— Jim Hopper waiting for his date at a restaurant

— Lots and lots of rats fleeing (never, ever a good sign)

— Eleven sitting in front of a fridge full of Eggo with a blindfold on and blood trickling from one nose

— Winona Ryder overacting.

Has Winona ever not looked shocked?

We don’t know what all this means exactly, and who are we to presume what goes through the head of the Duffer brothers?

But we know we’re in for one epic adventure.

Stranger Things 3 drops on Netflix on Friday, July 4 at 5pm AEST.
