WARNING: SPOILERS
THE third season of Stranger Things isn’t returning to Netflix until 2019, meaning diehard fans have a long wait to find out what happens next.
But we now know there’s a least one character that won’t be returning — the Byers’ family dog, Chester.
Appearing at Chicago Comic-Con, 13-year-old Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, was asked by a fan what had happened to the dog, which had appeared in season one but not season two.
“I think he died, didn’t he? He did — oh” Schnapp answered, appearing to realise his mistake and cover his mouth.
Realising the metaphorical cat was well and truly out of the bag, the teenager continued: “I’m sure you can tell, I guess. In this season there’s like a grave for him that you see.”
Schnapp’s revelation was perhaps not that surprising, given that his co-star David Harbour (Jim Hopper) revealed the dog had caused him to have a meltdown on set.
“The dog was the worst on the set,” he told The Howard Stern Wrap Up Show in 2016.
“There was a day with this dog that was the worst actor I’ve ever worked with in my life. […] The dog was just being a jerk. I never — I walked off set. I’ve never done that before.”
