Sarah Jessica Parker has dropped a trailer for the second series of And Just Like That to her Instagram, the Sex and the City sequel which will return in early June.
“And Just Like That … Season 2 - this June,” Parker posted to her nine million Instagram followers.
“Thank you to the enormously talented team, both on and off camera, who spent hours and hours working on this next chapter,” Parker wrote.
“Making the coldest winter days feel and look like spring and always giving more and better than we could have hoped or dreamt. And to all of you, our beloved audience, who keep these stories alive. This one’s for you, Part 2. X, SJ.”
Fans will be in raptures with the announcement and the trailer, which shows us what’s in store when Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) return.
The trailer promised fans the series is “full of surprises,” including plenty of sex and a fan-favorite character’s big return.
“If you’re lucky, you can always count on your closest friends to be there,” says Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw.
“We are all blissfully unaware when our lives are about to change.”
In the trailer, Carrie reveals she’s been having “exit out of grief” sex after the shocking death of Big (Chris Noth), declaring “life is too short not to try something new”.
Enter old flame, Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) who turns up on her doorstep (cue fans screaming).
“And just like that, I realised some things are better left in the past. But maybe not everything,” Carrie says as her former flame makes his anticipated return to the wildly popular franchise.
Elsewhere in the trailer, we see Miranda’s romance with Sara Ramírez’s Che hotting up, and the trio is seen expanding their ladies-who-brunch group as Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker and Karen Pittman return as series regulars alongside old favourites Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg and Evan Handler.
Corbett’s return had been expected ever since paparazzi photos from set popped up online last year. Playing on the spoiler, Parker fanned the flame by sharing some of the photos to her Instagram.
What capacity Corbett plays in the new series remains to be seen, as the series is known for filming misdirect scenes to keep plot points a surprise. Corbett last appeared in the big-screen sequel, Sex and the City 2.
The first season went in a different direction after original star Kim Cattrall declined to reprise her role as fan fave Samantha Jones, deepening the rift between her and her former co-stars.
Elsewhere in the first season, Carrie had to deal with the shocking death of Big after he had a heart attack on his Peleton bike (off screen, Noth was accused of sexual harassment and assault).
Tragically, the show’s beloved Willie Garson died from cancer early on in filming, while his character, Stanford Blatch, remains alive in the show’s world after moving to Tokyo.
And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King explained the finale choices while awaiting the season two renewal, telling The Hollywood Reporter at the time, “I want to know more about all the new characters. I want lots more. We have no answers, but we have a lot of questions.”
