‘Really nasty’: TV judge cops angry backlash on The Voice

An Australian star isn’t getting the reception she had hoped for from Channel 7 viewers, with one particular moment sparking criticism.

The Voice Australia viewers haven’t been won over by one of the show’s new coaches.

Channel 7’s beloved singing competition this year recruited American singers Adam Lambert and LeAnn Rimes and Aussie icon Kate Miller-Heidke to help coach an array of aspiring pop stars.

However, while Rimes and Lambert seem to have won viewers over, Heidke sadly seems to be having a rougher reception.

After just two episodes, fans of the show have lashed out at Heidke for coming across as “nasty” to the contestants and her fellow coaches.

One scene in particular seemed to get to viewers, which saw Heidke fighting hard for contestant Tia Barnes.

As the four coaches began to make their cases for Barnes, Heidke demanded that she was “not to listen to any of the crap” from the other coaches, and even claimed that Lambert would “make her do rock songs that were not suited to her at all.”

The Aussie singer then made a dismissive hand gesture toward Guy Sebastian and Rimes, before going to stand with Barnes on the stage.

“I love Kate however I’ve noticed this evening she makes some mean comments,” one person wrote. “Not sure she realises how it’s coming across. I know it’s being competitive however this is a bit different.”

“Agree, she has really turned me off, her behaviour is really nasty,” said another.

“Kate M-H seems to be a bit of sniffy brat,” remarked a third unimpressed fan.

“I am disappointed in some of Kate’s comments,” wrote another viewer. “She is very competitive but … the talent must say this year is really good.”

“Doing this show was a bad idea for Kate cause she’s coming across really badly and I’ve never had an opinion on her before,” another fan commented on X.

According to an insider that spoke with Yahoo Lifestyle, the singer has grown increasingly nervous in recent weeks of how viewers might take to her style of coaching.

“I think Kate only NOW knows the role she is playing among the coaches after seeing this week’s episodes,” the insider said of the Aussie star seemingly being given the role of the coach to “ruffle feathers” most on the panel.
