Gogglebox Australia star Matty Fahd reflects on the painful ordeal he endured last year with wife Sarah Marie.

Gogglebox Australia star Matty Fahd has reflected on the heartbreaking miscarriage he endured last year with his wife, Sarah Marie.

In his newly launched parenting podcast, The Dads and The Docs, which he co-hosts with Gogglebox castmate and fellow dad Adam Densten, Matty opened up about the difficult ordeal that left them devastated.

The couple miscarried a baby in May 2022 between their eldest child, Malik, 3, and their second son Lyon, now five months. And in hindsight, Matty says he should’ve been more supportive of his wife in the weeks and months following their tragic loss.

“When she found out the news, she took it really hard,” Matty reflected on the podcast.

“I was obviously very upset myself, but I felt like at that moment I needed to be a rock and say that everything is going to be alright – ‘We’ve already got a son, it happens to more people, this person had a miscarriage …’ I tried to say these things and go into solution mode, into why it’s not that bad and why everything is going to be alright – and Sarah didn’t want to hear that.”

Matty said his wife just “wanted someone to listen” but he just wanted to fix the situation and try to move on as quickly as possible.

”Me being me, I went into solution mode and tried to just pretend, not pretend, but try to seem unaffected because I knew she was so affected,” he said. “I don’t think that helped being this calm, almost ‘It’s not impacting me’ sort of person. Actually, it just made her feel worse.”

Matty and Adam met on Gogglebox Australia and have remained friends even when Adam left the show in 2019.

After hearing from their guest, parenting expert and well- respected Melbourne obstetrician Dr Scott Shemer, Matty says he “definitely stuffed it up” in how he handled the situation.

“It’s best to have said, ‘Hey, this is sh*t and I know it’s sh*t and that‘s OK, I’m here to help you’ and leave it at that and not go into solutions mode,” he said.

“They just need to vent and to feel pretty sh*tty and cry, and they’re not looking for a solution and you gotta be supportive unconditionally and just listen.”

“I definitely would have handled that different and not try to be this pillar of strength that I really didn’t need to be.”

Matty and Sarah Marie joined Gogglebox Australia in 2017 with their friend Jad Nehmetallah.

The couple first opened up about their miscarriage in February this year in a candid chat with Stellar magazine about their loss and pending arrival. The couple fell pregnant with their son Lyon in the months after the miscarriage.

“The miscarriage kind of ruins the pregnancy a little bit because ignorance is bliss,” said Sarah, who was still pregnant with Lyon at the time.

“You know that things like this happen, but you don’t think it will happen to you. And when it does, it changes things. You are on alert for everything.”

Sarah told Stellar that miscarriage made her “a bit more wary” and she wanted to get all her scans and tests done immediately for reassurance.

Thankfully, little Lyon arrived in the world safe and sound in May.

“Lyon Sainte Fahd, 09.05.23,” Sarah announced on Instagram. “My baby boy, you have completed us. We waited for you, we dreamt of you. Malik, your big brother has been calling your name.”

The family welcomed baby Lyon in May 2023.

“We will love you unconditionally. We will love you until the end of time. Thank you for blessing us.”

Matty and Sarah joined Gogglebox in 2017 along with their good pal Jad Nehmetallah. In this year’s season of Gogglebox, only Matty and Jad returned, with the occasional appearance from Malik. Sarah did not appear on camera this season as she chose to focus on her little ones.

Meanwhile, Adam appeared on Gogglebox for 10 seasons with his best mate, Symon Lovett, before the pair decided to leave the show in 2019. However, they returned to the program in 2021.
