Radio host and podcaster Amy Gerard calls out family over disappointing Mother’s Day

KIIS FM host Amy Gerard was left sorely disappointed by her family’s lacklustre Mother’s Day efforts this year – and she let them know it.

An Australian podcaster and radio host has publicly exposed her family for their disappointing efforts on Mother’s Day with a social media tirade.

KIIS FM host Amy Gerard went into detail about her lacklustre celebration after posting a cryptic message on her Instagram Story on Sunday, which read: “Nothing quite like Mother’s Day to really highlight how under appreciated and undervalued you are. 1 day and not a single person in my family could make it special. I’m flying to Paris next year.”

The media personality, who shares three children – Charli, Bobby and Kobe – with husband Rhian, then shared a series of videos which explained how it had all gone so wrong this year.

“You know, I feel like I am very low maintenance,” she told her 150,000-plus followers.

“I really don’t ask for much. I don’t expect gifts … I don’t expect much on Mother’s Day.

“But here’s what I do expect: if you can’t lighten my load and do the washing for me and help me relax for the day, then at least be nice to me. Just be nice to me.”

Gerard added that she partly blamed herself for thinking her family may surprise her with “a cup of tea or breakfast in bed”, and had thought she may have a day off from her regular chores.

“I didn’t see myself doing constant loads of washing, raking the lawn [and] putting out spot fires [and] breaking up fights [and] coping snappy dog shots,” she said, adding two of her kids had behaved like “demonic children”.

In the end, she told her followers, she just said “f**k this” and walked out of the house for some alone time.

“You know I work with all these brands that talk about sending mum off for the day and giving mum some ‘’freedom’’ and that’s what I’m doing next year,” Gerard declared.

She later shared another update, pointing out that the “saddest part” was that she’d had thousands of replies from other mums who had been left feeling the same way that she had.

“I’m so sorry to any other mums who didn’t feel appreciated and loved and didn’t get treated like the bloody queens that you are, because we do so much and it absolutely gets taken for granted,” Gerard told them.

“And if you have a wonderful partner and wonderful kids who made you feel special then that makes me happy because that’s what you deserve. That’s what all the mums deserve.”
