Fresh details have emerged about Channel 9 reporter Airlie Walsh’s legal claim against Nine Network.
It was revealed this week that Walsh had filed a human rights sexual discrimination complaint against the company on November 29, and will take the matter to the Federal Court.
Walsh remains employed by Nine but has been on maternity leave since 2023 after the premature birth of her son.
Now The Daily Telegraph has reported that the case relates to two historic incidents.
It is believed that Walsh will claim she had a lack of support throughout her pregnancy.
“When Airlie was pregnant, she asked for parking to avoid public transport, but they said no,” one source said.
“Then they kept expecting her to run around from job to job. She was exhausted and told them.
“Then one morning she fell and fainted at court. She was distraught at the lack of support.”
It is also believed there was a text exchange between two members of staff regarding her body, which was witnessed by other staff members.
The network declined to comment when approached by Daily Telegraph. News.com.au has reached out to Nine for comment.
2GB radio host Ben Fordham, a close friend of Walsh, spoke out about the reports this week on his show.
“There is a story … today involving someone I know well,” he told his top-rating breakfast show audience.
“I just wanted to say this about Airlie Walsh …
“First of all, I have not discussed the matter with her at all, so I’m not privy to any of the details of Airlie’s complaint … but I’ve known Airlie for a long time.
“And I believe Airlie Walsh to be a thoroughly decent and honest person and I will be watching with interest what happens with her case. She’s a first-class human being, a very good reporter and, Airlie, I’m thinking of you this morning.”
Airlie has worked for Nine for 15 years. She has been a producer on the Today show before working in Canberra as a political reporter and overseas. In 2014, Airlie was one of two journalists broadcasting live from the CBD as police stormed the Lindt Café during the Sydney siege.
The mum-of-one, who is close pals with singer Delta Goodrem, endured a traumatic and challenging pregnancy in 2023 that included her newborn son Peter spending months in hospital following a premature birth.
In June, 2023, she posted a video to Instagram documenting the ordeal.
“After 53 days in hospital (15 for Mum, 46 for Petey) we’re finally home!” she said.
“Every family’s journey is unique, and while we’ve had a challenging couple of months, what has become abundantly clear is just how lucky we actually are,’’ she said.
“To my friends and family, when I was in an emotional pit, you rallied. I’ll never forget it. “And to @tomferrier, your love and sturdiness is immeasurable. We made it through because of you.”
