Logie Awards 2024: Larry Emdur wins Gold Logie as Boy Swallows Universe dominate Logies after Sam Pang's Seven roasting

Larry Emdur has taken out the Gold Logie, and the awards were dominated by big wins for Boy Swallow Universe after comedian and radio personality Sam Pang roasted the Seven Network. Follow updates.

Australia has crowned its new favourite TV star. 

Larry Emdur has got the Gold Logie. It was his second win on the night after he won a Silver Logie for Most Popular Presenter.

"Shit I just remembered I did say if I won this during the week, did I?" he laughed.

"I was so convinced that I wasn't going to win this that I said that if I did win it, I would have all the nominees initials tattooed on my arse live tomorrow morning."

The people’s choice for Logies host Sam Pang went straight for the elephant in the room with his opening monologue, skewering the Seven network, his employer and broadcaster of the awards.

“Firstly, Channel 7, well, I’m just letting you all know I’m going to say whatever I want tonight,” he said.

“I stand before you safe in the knowledge that whatever I say, this network will defend me in court. And with their impeccable record in defamation cases over the last 12 months I reckon I’ll be fine.

“Full disclosure; I’m not getting paid by Channel Seven tonight. Instead, for the next 12 months, they’re paying my rent.Which is handy as they’ll know what address to send the Thai masseuse to.”

One of the biggest surprises of the Logies was Pang’s introduction of a world exclusive message from controversial breakdancing Olympian, Rachael “Raygun” Gunn.

One of the night’s more joyous moments came when Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy fronted the Farnham Band to pay tribute to national music treasure John Farnham, performing Burn for You and a rousing rendition of his signature hit You’re The Voice.

The tribute was watched by Farnham’s family, including sons Robert and James, and an emotional Gaynor Wheatley, whose late husband Glenn, was behind the making of the documentary.

Much-loved television actor Rebecca Gibney was named this year’s inductee to the Logie Hall of Fame. Bluey was a popular winner for Best Children’s Program.

During the show, Pang said he'd had more feedback when he joked about Seven again, and mentioned Julian Assange and Mark Taylor who worked for Nine as an Olympics commentator.

"This one here from Channel 7, 'Hey, Sam, strike two. Also, we're now only paying for three months of your rent'. This one here from someone named Julian, 'After watching that opening monologue, I'd like to go back to the Ecuadorian embassy.' This is a bit strong. This is embarrassing. It's tough to watch someone who is so clearly unqualified to do this job. That's from Channel 9 diving commentator Mark Taylor."

Boy Swallow Universe has also dominated with multiple wins. 

The Gold Logie is a tough field this year with nominees including Andy Lee, Asher Keddie, Julia Morris, Larry Emdur, Robert Irwin, Sonia Kruger and Tony Armstrong.
