Amanda Keller opened her interview with Keith Urban by asking some candid questions about his wife - and he didn’t seem too pleased.

Keith Urban sounded rather annoyed on Aussie breakfast radio this morning when asked about his wife, Nicole Kidman.

The country music star was invited on the Jam Nation with Jonesy & Amanda podcast to chat about his new album,High and upcoming world tour when the preceding chat focused on Kidman being at the Venice Film Festival.

With that segue, host Amanda Keller began asking questions about the origins of Urban’s relationship with the Aussie actress.

“Speaking of your amazing love story with Nicole, you met at G’day Australia. Is that what it was called?” she asked Urban, to which he bluntly corrected her: “G’day LA.”

Keller suggested that if the pair hadn’t met that fateful night, they perhaps might never have met at all.

“If you hadn’t both been there that day, would your paths somewhere have inevitably crossed? Or maybe ... this incredible love story wouldn’t have happened,” she wondered.

“No, I think it would,” Urban insisted.

“Yeah? Are you a believer in fate or do you think it’s two Australians, it would have happened?” she pushed, with Urban replying, “No idea.”

Keller continued her line of questioning and the interview became more awkward when Urban appeared to run out of patience.

It was a tense moment, but the trio did pose for a happy snap.

“I just often think that if you weren’t at that event, maybe you don’t have the same friendship group, it may have never have happened,” Keller persisted.

“Never know,” Urban said.

As if sensing the tension, Keller’s co-host Brendan Jones tried to lighten the mood.

“It’s fate, it’s the universe!” he said animatedly, as Keller agreed: “You’d like to think so.”

Clearly done with questions about his wife, Urban shut down the topic with three simple words: “Anyway, moving on.”

Urban and Kidman had their famous meet-cute at the G’Day LA Gala back in 2005. She grew up in Sydney as did the New Zealand-born Urban, but that was the first time they had ever met.

While they were both smitten and exchanged phone numbers, it took Urban months before he called her his future wife.

“I had such a crush on him and he wasn’t interested in me. It’s true!” Kidman told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in 2017. “He didn’t call me for four months.”

Urban later explained that the delay was because it took him that long to build up the courage to call the Oscar winner.

“I was trying to play it cool, but inside I felt like I’d snuck into the royal ball simply because Nic had such a truly otherworldly aura about her,” he said onstage at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala when Kidman was being honoured in April. “I felt a bit like I was meeting a real-life princess.”

But once he picked up that phone he realised that Kidman was “just a wide-eyed, giddy girl from the Sydney suburbs” who’s “utterly Aussie through and through”.

A whirlwind romance followed and the pair were married one year later in the Sydney suburb of Manly.

They are now the proud parents of two daughters: Sunday, 16, and Faith, 13.
