Karl Stefanovic’s wife Jasmine divides with social media post amid lay-offs: ‘Thank you, 9’

Karl Stefanovic’s wife, Jasmine, has joined him in Paris – but one Instagram picture of the pair has raised some eyebrows.

Nine CEO refuses to answer questions as newspaper reporters strike

Karl Stefanovic’s wife, Jasmine, has divided fans with a social media post showcasing an extravagant dinner, funded by Channel 9, in the wake of mass staff redundancies.

Jasmine – along with the couple’s three-year-old daughter, Harper, is currently in Paris, where her Today host husband is working as part of the network’s Olympics broadcast team.

On Monday, she shared a picture of herself and Karl at the glamorous – and eye-wateringly expensive – restaurant La Girafe, which boasts breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower.

It’s understood the dinner was attended by select Nine talent and corporate clients.

“La Girafe with you. Thank you @channel9 for a beautiful dinner,” Jasmine wrote in the caption.

While some followers complimented the stunning shot, one pointed out the timing of showcasing Nine’s cash splash couldn’t be worse.

“I’m sure all the people who have just been sacked from Channel 9 will be happy to see you eating at the most expensive restaurant in Paris paid for by Channel 9!” wrote one user.

Another agreed, adding: “100%. Like read the room. Go have the dinner and enjoy yourself. But at least have enough compassion to not post about it.”

However, others were quick to jump to her defence.

“They are working their butts over in Paris 24/7, either be gracious and happy or maybe don’t comment, and go and find Jesus, you nasty troll,” wrote one.

Others simply wrote “beautiful” and shared love heart emojis.

News.com.au has reached out to Nine for comment.

Nine – who owns the rights to the Olympics broadcast – has spared no expense as it hosts its corporate guests in the French capital.

As well as the La Girafe dinner, the VIPs have been treated to prime Opening Ceremony tickets and other events, after being flown over with business class airline seats and put up in a five-star hotel costing around $1500 a night, according to the Herald Sun.

It follows a tumultuous few weeks at Nine Entertainment, after almost all journalists working for the company’s newspapers voted for a five-day strike on the eve of the 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony last week, including 20 reporters on the ground in Paris.

It came after union representatives and management failed to find a resolution with annual pay rates during crunch talks on Thursday.

Staff were reportedly “very angry” pay rises have failed to keep up with the soaring inflation rate, while the culture is suffering following the recent announcement of 200 planned redundancies, including 90 from the publishing division.

It’s been a turbulent cost-cutting period for the local media industry on the whole, including at News Corp Australia and Seven West Media, after independent content deals with global tech giant Meta came to an end in June after three years.

Following the announcement of the five-day strike action, Nine chief executive officer Mike Sneesby said he was “profoundly disappointed” in a group email addressed to all staff last Friday.

He argued the network had invested “significantly” in its Olympics offering, referencing the $305 million exclusive rights deal that will see Nine host the Games up until Brisbane in 2032.

He said their decision to strike falls on “the eve of one of the biggest news events on the planet.”

“It goes without saying we’re profoundly disappointed by this decision as we have offered a new and improved agreement yesterday and were negotiating in good faith to a constructive outcome,” Mr Sneesby wrote in an email seen by news.com.au.
