I’m A Celebrity 2019: Why Sam Dastyari is going to the jungle and his biggest weakness

Sam Dastyari revealed why he’s going on reality TV and what his concerns are before he meets his fellow I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! campmates in the South African jungle.

It’s one of the worst kept secrets in reality TV — but Ten has now confirmed that former Labor senator and powerbroker Sam Dastyari is also joining this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!

In a Q&A with News Corp Australia, Mr Dastyari revealed why he’s doing it and what his concerns are before he meets his fellow campmates in the South African jungle.

So far, the other contestants confirmed are former senator Jacqui Lambie, former AFL footballer and Fox Footy commentator Dermott Brereton, Hollywood celebrity reporter Richard Reid, and Angie Kent and Yvie Jones of Gogglebox fame on Foxtel.

What convinced you to go on the show?

I wanted to force myself out of my comfort zone.

Is there anything you’ve vowed not to do on the show?

It would be nice, considering I have spent a lifetime embarrassing and humiliating myself, it would be nice to not make a complete idiot of myself.

Are you going to miss being kept up to date with news and the latest goss in the real world? What news/goss in particular?

I’m a mobile phone and political junkie. I don’t miss a story. Not having my phone is going to be a huge challenge.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced and how did you overcome it?

Dealing with the disgrace and failure of my political career. I haven’t overcome it. I’m still trying to find my way through that.

What is your biggest weakness?

At some point people are going to hate me for not shutting up. I have a real inability to stay quiet.

Who would be your nightmare jungle buddy?

Pauline Hanson. I couldn’t do it. I would just walk.
