Game Of Thrones star Jerome Flynn has thrown his support behind an independent Australian film aimed at preserving indigenous culture.
The UK actor and activist, who plays the amoral mercenary Ser Bronn on the hit Foxtel fantasy drama, is spearheading a crowd-funding campaign for the documentary Morning Star.
The doco is a sequel to the acclaimed Westwind: Djalu’s Legacy, which premiered at the 2018 Melbourne International Film Festival, and told the story of Galpu elder Djalu Gurruwiwi as he struggled to pass down his ancient knowledge and sacred songlines to the next generation.

Morning Star will follow Djulu’s son Larry as he continues that legacy and takes the traditional Aboriginal music to Europe in July, and Flynn is drumming up support and funds for the trip and helping to organise a gig at the historic city of St Davids in Wales.

“We are hoping to bring Larry and his band to the Bishop’s palace there, which is an amazing outdoor venue for performance and to link him up with some of our musicians to collaborate,” Flynn said.

Also an outspoken animals rights activist, Flynn said he is aiming to make the most of the global spotlight thanks to the final season of Game Of Thrones, although he thinks he might be in for hate mail after his appearance in this week’s episode when he threatened to kill Jaime and Tyrion Lannister, and punched the latter in the nose.
“I am quite aware that there is a lot of love for Bronn and a lot of people have chosen to see that there is a heart in there, but after last night’s episode I could be getting some angry letters,” Flynn said yesterday.
While Flynn said he loves Bronn’s unashamed greed and pragmatism, he admits he’d show a different side of the character if given the choice, probably to the detriment of the still-shocking show.
“I have got mixed feelings because I also wanted him to be a hero and turn up in the Battle of Winterfell and save Tyrion’s life,” he said.
“I had a fantasy for more of a heroic laying down of his own desires for the greater good. If I was writing it I probably would have done that and it wouldn’t be the show that it is.
“They have stuck to a version of Bronn that is true to what he originally is. If I had been writing it, I would have ended up on the Throne with Daenerys. So it’s just as well I wasn’t.”
