‘Craziest’ moment in Ellen’s Netflix special

Ellen DeGeneres’ new Netflix special has been released and it’s not getting the reaction the “cancelled” star might have hoped for.

Viewers left baffled by awkward scenes during Ellen DeGeneres' Netflix comedy special

Ellen DeGeneres is back with her Netflix special For Your Approval, but sadly for the star, the internet is already absolutely roasting her after clips emerged on social media.

DeGeneres’ stand-up special, Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval streaming on Tuesday, September 24.

The special opens with Ellen walking into a room while a voiceover asks, “is the queen of nice the queen of mean?”

As dramatic headlines then spin around the star’s head featuring words like “toxic” and “liar”, DeGeneres stands on the stage looking solemn.

Another clip that’s gone viral features the comedian telling the audience that she believes she is a “strong woman”.

The crowd then breaks into rapturous applause that lasts for well over a minute, giving the impression DeGeneres has said something far more awe-inspiring.

Fans rushed to comment on the “unhinged” clip, which seemingly paints DeGeneres as a victim of “cancel culture” instead of a celebrity who eventually ended up facing the consequences of her alleged actions.

After all, it’s somewhat of an oxymoron to argue one has been a victim of cancel culture while standing the stage of their multimillion-dollar Netflix special …

“This is one of the craziest things I have ever seen,” mocked one fan on Twitter after sharing one of the clips.

“Feminism is when you’re awful to your employees,” joked another, with a third commenting: “This has to be a joke, right? RIGHT?”

Another remarked: “Sorry the intro to the new Ellen special is so ridiculous!”

“The egocentrism and celebrity worship of the last generation just doesn’t hit like they think it will this generation. I’m not her intended audience, but comedians these days really latch onto the ‘cancelled’ identity left and right like it’s not, at minimum, hacky at this point,” insisted another fan.

Ellen dives deeper into her thoughts about being cancelled during the special.

She tells the audience: “We have all these unwritten rules based on gender about acceptable behaviour. If we don’t follow those rules, it makes people uncomfortable. And if people are uncomfortable, there are consequences.”

“For those of you keeping score, this is the second time I’ve been kicked out of show business,” she continued, essentially comparing her latest exit to when she was black-listed in the 90s for coming out as a lesbian on Ellen and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

“I’m happy not being a boss or a brand or a billboard, just a person,” she says towards the end of the special.
