Christina Applegate says she is 'living in hell' amid MS health battle

Hollywood star Christina Applegate has shared an emotional update on her health as she fights a debilitating condition.

Applegate, 52, said she is living “in hell” after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a chronic condition that happens when the immune system attacks the brain and spinal chord.

In a sit-down interview for Good Morning America, Applegate revealed she got “freaked out” when she presented an award at the 2024 Emmy Awards in January to a standing ovation.

“I actually kind of blacked out,” she said, adding, “People said, ‘oh you were so funny’, and I’m like, ‘I don’t even know what I said’. I don’t know what I was doing, I got so freaked out that I didn’t even know what was happening anymore.”

She said her appearance at the 75th Emmy Awards made her feel loved but going out is “difficult” because of the condition.

“I mean, yes, yes. I live kind of in hell … I’m not out a lot so this is like a little difficult just for my system, but yeah of course the support is wonderful and I’m really grateful,” she said.

She added: “I felt really beloved and it was a beautiful thing,“ and joked “I’m just going to say this, that audience stood up for everybody!”.

Last year Applegate declared she may have to give up acting because of the multiple sclerosis.

In an interview with Vanity Fair she said, “I can’t even imagine going to set right now.
“This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse. With the disease of MS, it’s never a good day. You just have little sh--ty days.”

The starlet received her diagnosis in 2021 while shooting the third and final season of her Netflix show.
“I found out on a Monday after work that I had MS, a disease I’m gonna have for the rest of my life,” she previously recalled.

For four years prior to her diagnosis, the actress had been unknowingly experiencing “very small symptoms” of the chronic disease.

I didn’t know what was happening to me,” she explained.
“I couldn’t walk. They had to use a wheelchair to get me to set. I was freaking out. Someone was like, ‘You need an MRI’.”

Applegate revealed her diagnosis in an August 2021 tweet, writing, “a few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey”.

“But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition,” she continued at the time.
“It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a--*hole blocks it.”

Applegate, who is married to Martyn LeNoble and is the mother of daughter Sadie, 11, previously fought breast cancer in 2008.
