Former Bachelor star Apollo Jackson is trying his luck on another reality TV show — with horrifying results.
The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise contestant, who also works professionally as a magician, appears on the new season of Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent, performing a death-defying stunt that soon appears to get out of hand.
In a shocking new preview clip released by Seven, Jackson appears on stage wrapped in a straitjacket and tells the show’s judges — Nicole Scherzinger, Shane Jacobson, Manu Feildel and Lucy Durack — his plans.
“I’m going to be suspended from the ceiling to a pulley system set to drop me face-first toward a bed of razor-sharp flaming spikes. The only way to stop the drop system is a switch located in a locked and chained box out of reach,” he explains.
“And to take this escape to the next level, I’m going to be doused in gasoline.”
It sounds incredibly dangerous, and Jackson admits he’s feeling “really nervous; there’s a chance things could go seriously wrong.”
It's confronting viewing, as Jackson is doused in petrol, hung upside down and then set alight, the studio audience screaming as flames cover his entire body.
And while Jackson manages to free himself from the straitjacket, the stunt doesn’t appear to go entirely to plan — his arm is still on fire as he’s reaching to unlock the box.
“His arm’s on fire! Oh my god,” the judges scream.
That’s where the preview clip ends … but it seems Jackson does live to fight another day: Here he is over the weekend (with no visible burns) giving the viral #bottlecapchallenge a magician’s spin:
