One of the world’s most lusted after actors has been cutting a surprising figure around Melbourne looking far from the bearded, buffed hunk that fans fell for.
Charlie Hunnam, the British actor who earned huge acclaim and a voracious fan following for his role as Jax in the TV series Sons Of Anarchy is in Melbourne filming the TV adaptation of the best selling book Shantaram.
Hunnam plays Lin in the AppleTV+ series and has shed weight and his famous beard for the role.
Despite playing it low-key, Hunnam has been snapped around town in recent days.
He obliged a fan with a selfie outside a convenience store in Collingwood and on Friday night was turning heads at the George On Collins.
Hunnam was at the popular Collins St venue with a small group of friends.
“What a good-looking guy,” said one patron.
“He was delightful, happy to chat and did some selfies.”
Another said he seemed very much at home in Melbourne.
“He is here for a couple of months filming,” they said.
“He looked totally at ease and while people recognised him they were respectful.”
The mates Hunnam was with later headed to daHa Lounge in Queens St, but the actor didn’t kick on.
Shantaram is filming at the Docklands Studios.
The 10 episode series tells the story of Lin, Hunnam’s character, a man on the run from an Australian prison and looking to disappear and start a new life in India.
Shantaram originally started filming in Australia in 2020 and then production was halted last year because of COVID.
Hunnam is no stranger to Melbourne and Victoria.
He filmed The True History of The Kelly Gang here in 2019.
