Shock as KIIS FM hosts walk off the job amid brutal axing

A popular KIIS FM breakfast radio trio have walked off the job following their recent axing – with two weeks still left on air.

Three KIIS FM hosts have shocked listeners after walking off the job early following the announcement that their show was to be axed.

Brisbane breakfast trio Kip Wightman, Corey Oates and Robin Bailey have shared that they will no longer continue their morning program despite having two more weeks left before the show is officially taken off the air.

Friday will now be their final show instead of the planned December 12th date.

The shock exit came at the same time as Wightman and Oates announcing their next career move – a footy-themed Broncos podcast that will see them partner with former Broncos star player, Sam Thaiday.

The Unofficial Broncos Podcast with Sammy, Oatsey and Kip, is slated to launch in February 2026 and will see the boys share unfiltered stories from behind the scenes with a Broncos-led theme.

For Podshape co-founder, Jay Walkerden, signing up the trio for a new show didn’t need much convincing.

“When three grown men show up at your studios holding microphones and looking desperate, you sign them. It’s in the handbook,” he said.

Known for their quick wit, Wightman and Oates poked fun at the recent cancellation of their show, which was announced last month, as they confirmed their big news of what’s next.

“Look, when the radio station said ‘we’re making changes’ we thought that meant new chairs,” Wightman joked.

“Turns out the ‘changes’ were us leaving. So yeah … podcasting felt like a natural step down.”

Oates also poked fun at their new venture, hinting at the “real” reason they decided to team up with Thaiday.

“Kip lost his job, and I thought, why should he suffer alone?” he said.

“Besides, Sammy said he’d shout lunch if I joined, and I’m easily convinced.”

The news comes after a big shake-up was announced at the KIIS network last month.

ARN announced that Craig “Lowie” Low will take over the KIIS 97.3’s Brisbane breakfast show in 2026, ultimately replacing Robin, Kip and Corey.

At the time, the radio network described the new host and format as “bold, entertaining and fast-moving … a high-energy start to the day that brings together the best music, the biggest personalities, and the unique Brisbane perspective listeners love.”

Robin will not be joining the boys on the new podcast or returning to the new breakfast program.
