Seven of Australia’s celebrities to make social media blunders

BEYONCE might have thought Tasmania was a country on Instagram today, but she is not the only celebrity to make an embarrassing gaffe on social media. Take a look at some of our Australian celebs who were Twit-slapped.

1.Hugh Jackman

The much-loved Aussie Wolverine star came under fire when one of his tweets mistakenly called the Sydney Opera House, the ”Opera Center”. In the end Jackman had to come clean that he wasn’t writing his own posts, instead dictating them over the phone.

2.Richard Wilkins

On the same day Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died in 2009, a rumour spread on Twitter that The Fly actor Jeff Goldblum had fallen to his death in New Zealand. Nine’s The Today Show entertainment stalwart Richard Wilkins hastily reported the rumour which was subsequently revealed to be a hoax. Cringe.

3.Stephanie Rice

The Olympic golden girl came under fire in 2010 after posting a homophobic tweet where she ridiculed the South African rugby teams with a derogotary term. Her image took a battering and she later broke down in a press conference offering a wrenching apology.

4.Nick D’Arcy and Kenrick Monk

Still on our Aussie swimmers, the bad boys landed themselves in hot water after posting a gun-toting pic of them in California that backfired on them in a major way.

5.Cricket Australia

Cricket Australia apologised last year after being criticised on social media for a clumsy joke involving England spinner Monty Panesar during the opening day of the second Ashes test.

A picture of four men wearing turbans posing in a corridor was posted on the governing body`s Twitter feed with the caption: “Will the real Monty Panesar please stand up?!”

The post drew a number of negative responses, including from former England captain Michael Vaughan who tweeted: “Awful from @CricketAus

6. Wil Anderson

The Aussie comedian was criticised for his tweets during the 2010 Logie Awards, including taking a swipe at MasterChef judge Matt Preston that went a little too far when he said: ”Matt Preston won Logie, deep fried in batter and ate it.”

7.Catherine Deveny

At the same Logies the Fairfax columnist was later sacked for tweeting ‘‘I do so hope Bindi Irwin gets laid’’.
