Sam Newman says David Schwarz knew it was a set- up but he’s “dined out” on the infamous pie in the face incident on The Footy Show for almost two decades.

SAM Newman has accused David Schwarz of dining out on the cream pie prank which he says was completely staged.
Former Melbourne star Schwarz was hit in the face by Newman and then reacted by angrily pushing The Footy Show larrikin to the ground in the 2001 skit.
“People were wary about coming on in the end, because they thought if I’m going to throw a pie in the face of someone like David Schwarz, why would we send our players in to have that happen to them,’’ Newman told the Sacked: Showbiz podcast.
“I’ve been happy to go along with all that, but that was absolutely organised and I think David’s dined out on it a little. And fair enough, I’m not going to step on him.
“But he knew exactly what he was doing. And when he pushed me over I could have been a stunt double in Hollywood, I did two or three back somersaults and I know the backboard of the set was plaster board and wasn’t steel, and knew I wasn’t going to hurt myself.
“I played the game and I don’t know if he’s conceded that I was going to do it but we would never do that to our guests. We would never actually try and embarrass or humiliate them without in the public’s view, without saying are you comfortable with this.
“He knew exactly what I was going to do, but I’m not sure if he’s conceded that but I’m happy to wear the flak for it and I do.
“It went around the world. I was over in France one day and I saw a French man, I couldn’t understand French, (he said) have a look at this, this has happened to a panellist on a sports show.”
