More shows added to the final Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Australia tour

Fan demand for tickets has led to three new concerts on Elton John’s Yellow Brick Road tour in Australia. This is where you can see his final gigs here.

Huge demand for pre-sale tickets to the surprise extra run of Aussie shows for Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road has the Rocketman adding even more stadium gigs to his live swan song.

The pop legend, who will spend Christmas this year in Sydney with husband David Furnish and their sons Elijah and Zachary, will play another three stadium gigs in Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle in January 2023.

The new dates are McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on January 8, AAMI Park, Melbourne on January 14, and Sydney’s Allianz Stadium on January 17 and will go on sale on August 1 at the same time as general tickets for the previously announced stadium shows.

His longtime Australian promoter Michael Chugg said these will be the last new shows added to John’s victory lap around the world which was curtailed by the pandemic.

“The demand has been unbelievable; with these extra shows, Elton will have sold close to a million tickets for his Yellow Brick shows in Australia,” Chugg said.

Chugg said while John will never undertake a massive tour of this kind in Australia ever again, he doubts it will be the last we will see of him here because the legendary entertainer has strong ties with the country.

And he doesn’t mind a big gig.

“We can’t fit any more shows in for the Yellow Brick Road tour,” Chugg said.

“But I’m sure if some horse race or football final wants to offer him $15 million to come and do a show, he would think about coming. But he won’t tour here like this again.

The 75-year-old pop legend made good on the big hint he made at his last gig in Sydney in March 2020 that he would be back for more shows.

With two shows to make up in New Zealand after he contracted pneumonia in February 2020, just weeks before the world was shut down by the Covid pandemic, John was keen to revisit his Australian fans as well.

“I’m so excited to share my very last Farewell Yellow Brick Road shows with you in January 2023. I cannot believe it’ll be three years since our last visit,” he said.

John, his husband David Furnish, and their sons Zachary and Elijah spent three months based in Sydney during the mammoth Australian leg of 34 concerts for the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

His Australian connections depended during that visit as he recorded his Rocket Hour Radio show with guests including Amy Shark, Tones and I and Winston Surfshirt.

John and pop star Dua Lipa have been riding high on the global charts for almost a year with Cold Heart, the genius disco pop remix of Rocket Man, Sacrifice and Kiss The Bride created by Australian electronic crew PNAU.

He will open the limited 2023 run at the McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle on January 10 and then perform at Melbourne’s AAMI Stadium on January 13, Sydney Football Stadium on January 18, and Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on January 21.

“A huge thank you to Auckland for keeping their tickets to the rescheduled shows for so long. I promised back in 2020 that when we returned, we’d take the opportunity to play a few encore shows. I know the last tickets sold fast, and I want to be able to say farewell to you all! And Newcastle! I’m finally coming your way for my first Newcastle show ever. Join me for a night of memories, singalongs, and a fond farewell,” John said.
