Just when you thought the dust had settled comes another storm brewing in Melbourne’s TV news landscape.
This time it’s a nasty forecast for a popular weather girl.
The kicker, or kick in the guts, is everyone at the network knows a replacement is in the wind. The news boss has let slip to all and sundry he finds a good temperature with a fresh-faced reporter for the role.
Problem being all except the solid performer in the current position has been told.
It’s certainly not the first time our weather anchors have seen a change.
Who can forget when Ten’s long running weatherman Mike Larkan was axed in 2020.
Now a successful and sought after marriage celebrant, the ever upbeat Larkan told Page 13 at the time he had no idea he was getting “that phone call” after 25 years in the role.
The network said they were moving to a national feed but it turns out that forecast wasn’t quite on the money and a local sunnier younger version was soon employed.
Sounds like a familiar tale is unfolding again, just a different channel.
