Spicy feud between Kane Cornes and Dale Thomas explodes again

Any thought of an olive branch between Kane Cornes and Dale Thomas has been torn apart after back-to-back expletive laden sprays by Thomas at Grand Final week lunches.

Dale Thomas calls Kane Corne’s a “f…wit”

The spicy feud between soon-to-be Channel 7 on-air partners, Kane Cornes and Dale Thomas, has exploded again.

Any thoughts of an olive branch between the two warring footy commentators has been torn apart with back-to-back expletive laden sprays by Thomas at Grand Final week lunches.

On Wednesday the former Collingwood premiership star was at the Walk With Me Grand Final Lunch for Corey McKernan’s non-profit foundation at Southbank’s Metropolis.

Thomas was alongside fellow Triple M commentator Nathan Brown with Channel 7 presenter Jason Richardson in the hosting seat when the banter turned to Cornes and how he is switching networks next year.

“Kane is alright, I understand the role he plays in the media,” Thomas said.

“I am going to have to work with him so I’m going to put the fact aside that he is a complete f..kwit and try and push on.”

The crowd burst into laughter with Thomas smiling as he delivered the sledge which had Richardson almost falling off his chair.

Only 24 hours later ‘Daisy’ was at it again, this time at yet another gig, this one titled ‘The Great Grand Final Lunch’ at the Pullman Hotel in East Melbourne.

Channel 9 sports guru Tony Jones was hosting with Sunday Footy Show panellists — the show Cornes is leaving — Damian Barrett, Matthew Lloyd and Brown again.

This time there was a slight change to the expletive with Thomas shocking onlookers by calling Cornes a “f..khead”.

The Thomas and Cornes feud started last year when the former Port Adelaide captain took a public swipe at the Collingwood premiership-winner over comments he had made in the media.

Cornes referenced the Thomas attacks on his SEN breakfast show on Friday morning when co-host David King raised the latest episode in the feud.

With tongue firmly in cheek, Cornes said: “I don’t need any more headlines but I’m sure they (Sunday Footy Show boys on the panel) had my back. I’m sure they didn’t laugh, I’m sure they defended me,”

How Thomas/Cornes spat has played out

Cornes labelled Thomas “lazy” and said he only worked “part-time”, claiming “Daisy” had copied his comments when he said Richmond’s Tim Taranto did not “influence games”.

“I’m sick of some lazy members of the AFL media, I’m sick of AFL figures having opinions off the back of other AFL figures,” Cornes said.

“For the likes of Daisy Thomas and (former Collingwood coach) Tony Shaw, who work part-time and they don’t have to do a lot of on-air time, for their big opinions this week to be something I said 12 months ago on SEN SA is embarrassing.

“Get up early, watch the games, work hard and stop having opinions off other people’s opinions.

“If I employed these people, I’d want my money back.”

Thomas then fired back, saying: “I don’t think he needs to flatter himself with the fact that I’m just purely sifting through his crap and what he’s saying to have a hot take.

“It’s not a hot take, it was purely just a discussion in and around saying that Tim Taranto isn’t in the top 150 players is completely factually and statistically incorrect.

“For (Kane Cornes) to come out and say ‘I’m sick of these media types having opinions on other media types’ opinions’, what is going through his brain at the moment?”

Earlier this month they clashed again with Thomas rubbishing Cornes over his divisive comments about Port Adelaide’s Zak Butters during the Power’s disastrous qualifying final loss to Geelong.

Thomas then poured fuel on the fire with a cheeky swipe at Cornes on social media.

“Dear Mr Volcano. In an effort to start off on a good note, I have created a list of things I will accept as an “olive branch” or “fence mender”,’’ he posted.

“Box of Carlton Draught Stubbies, Cadbury Chocolate, Alarm Clock (to get up early), Bellroy note book, list of controversial conversation starters, 200 word handwritten note about my work ethic, a photo of you in a fireman’s outfit. a Prison Bar Port Jumper, a Strava Membership, a follow on Insta so I can tag you (see next slide).

“Regards; the 7-day-a-week “part timer”.”

Cornes cops another drive-by

Cornes revealed his Grand Final week got even weirder on Thursday night when he was walking back to his hotel in Melbourne when he thought he’d “got shot”.

Already probably feeling a bit jumpy with verbal drive-by’s he’s copped this week, Cornes momentarily thought he’d been a victim of a Donald Trump-style assassination attempt.

“I am walking across a pedestrian crossing and have gone to the middle of the median strip,” Cornes said. “I can see this big black SUV coming up, there are four or five guys in there having a good time.

“As it turned the corner right next to me, they were probably only a metre away, I have been shot. I have been shot, I have been shot.

“This unbelievable force has hit me in the chest and I heard the pop. Pop, bang, I thought I had been shot.”

The shock jock checked his shirt for signs of blood but then thought it might have been a rubber bullet used by police in riots or an egging.

“Then I looked down and saw this gigantic Nerf bullet,” Cornes said.

King then jumped and declared: “They have done what a lot of other people would like to do.”
