Kudos to Pete Helliar for just telling it like it is, after fans were wondering where The Project host had got to this week.
Sharing a photo of himself giving the thumbs up, the 46-year-old confirmed on Friday that he had tested positive to Covid-19.
“So I was sick of friends saying they didn’t know anyone with Covid. So I got Covid (not deliberately of course),” he wrote.
Helliar said he is now nearing the end of his quarantine period and feels “absolutely fine”.
The comedian praised the “brilliant” coronavirus vaccine and said it was due to his fully vaccinated status that he was able to avoid more serious illness.
“The worst it got was a mild cold,” he wrote.
“Not because the virus didn’t have bad intentions but because science is brilliant and being fully immunised meant I had a whole bunch of vaxxy goodness protecting me.
“My family are safe and I am grateful.”
Helliar also showed his appreciation for Australia’s “compassionate, professional, caring and incredibly patient” healthcare workers.
“The system is undoubtedly under a great deal of stress but they are doing a wonderful job,” he said.
Helliar, who joined The Project panel in 2014, will be back on Monday.
He is one of four regular hosts on the Network Ten show, alongside Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly and Lisa Wilkinson.
