The Ox and Marko radio rollercoaster has taken another unexpected turn.
The popular pair were expected to start a new breakfast show on Magic 1278 this year but issues with new lease holders ACE Radio over arrangements with their current Nine employer put the kybosh on that at the 11th hour.
Good grief not again, but more of that later.
And before the outrage starts (the much loved duo has a fervent, loud and loyal fanbase) we have the early mail that Mark Allen and former Melbourne champion David “Ox” Schwarz will launch a new podcast Couple of Blokes, Couple of Beers next week.
The name says it all, with the longtime besties having a laugh, chewing the fat and sharing a beer … or three.
“I’ve missed having fun with my mate Ox in front of the microphone,” former pro golfer Allen told Page 13.
“He’s truly fun and at times a complex fella.”
Marko said you might even find them down at your local in coming months, with plans to take the podcast on a pub crawl.
Instead of having listeners call in, the pair will be grabbing a pub regular at some of their favourite haunts to let rip over a frothy.
“We’ll go from pub to pub with the show, and we will get a few people in the pub to come and have a chat.”
It’s been quite a ride, with the rollercoaster starting late in 2017 after the popular SEN show was dumped by new owner Craig Hutchison, much to the chagrin of those loyal fans we mentioned.
An impending legal battle was avoided after the pair were quickly picked up by the now defunct Macquarie Media’s new Sports Radio.
Fast forward to September last year and a move to 3AW and the pair were left without a show after the pin was pulled on their 3AW weekend program The Twilight Zone.
Keeping up?
Allen and Schwarz still have existing commitments with 3AW while their new podcast will be produced by radio maestro Dan Bradley, well known for his stint behind the scenes as Triple M content director and now head of Kaizen Media.
