We always like hearing about rival networks coming together for the greater good.
The latest couple to put their work allegiances aside in the pursuit of love are Melbourne’s man-about-town 3AW’s Sam McClure and ABC TV news anchor Karina Carvalho.
Word on the street is that this latest media power match-up has been on the slow burn. The newshounds have known each other for some time with romance recently blossoming, despite the pair living in different states.
McClure is the host of Wide World of Sports on 3AW and is also a regular on Channel Nine’s Footy Classified.
Carvalho started her career with the ABC in Perth before having stints in Melbourne, Brisbane and recently in Sydney.
In 2012 she co-hosted the national daily program ABC News Breakfast out of Melbourne before moving to Queensland where she became the face of the state’s ABC News bulletin.
She married high-flying IBM executive Terry Sweeney in 2015 on a beach in Carvalho’s homeland Sri Lanka.
Sweeney was rumoured to star at The Bachelor for its 2014 season before Western Australian real estate professional Blake Garvey ended up signing on to the franchise.
However, the couple split in 2019 with Carvalho revealing last year she had taken steps about her future following the divorce.
“I recently froze my eggs. I’m a divorced woman who’s now in her 40s and I don’t have children. I don’t know that I ever will, but I want to give myself as many options as possible in case it’s something that I decide I want,” Carvalho said.
