Miley Cyrus slated for surprise Australian Grand Prix performance

Pop sensation Miley Cyrus is set to stun at Melbourne’s Grand Prix next month as the latest international act added to the weekend’s burgeoning bill. But the deal was only done after another superstar proved to be too pricey.

Cody Simpson: Miley’s new Aussie love story

Stick your tongues out as Miley Cyrus sets to rev up Melbourne next month at the Australian Grand Prix.

It’s 25 years since Melbourne poached the Formula 1 season-opener from Adelaide.

To mark the occasion, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation along with World Tour are dipping into a seemingly bottomless budget to move the Albert Park event up a gear.

Superstars such as Cyrus make it more than a just a weekend for your average Bundy-swiggin’ petrolhead or Ferrari tragic.

“They are trying to make it cool and not just an event for bogans,” Page 13 was told this week.

Last month, it was announced British superstar Robbie Williams would make his only Australian appearance as part of the Grand Prix.

Now, Miley Cyrus is the latest close to be locked in for the World Tour concert.

In past years, appearances by Lenny Kravitz and KISS have been included in the Formula One general admission ticket price.

This year will be the first time a series of concerts are held in conjunction with the Grand Prix, with tickets being sold separately via promoters TEG Dainty.

It will also be the first series of music concerts held at sports arena Lakeside Stadium, normally home to athletics and soccer.

World Tour, a “new multi-genre event series” was launched last year and is part owned by Hollywood megastar Will Smith.

The “live event series” will open in Melbourne before going to other world cities in association with Formula 1 races.

Pulling Williams and Cyrus comes at a cost, with an asking fee rumoured to be around a million dollars plus each.

Part of the ticket prices are expected to be donated toward the Bushfire Appeal.

Punters might expect to see Will Smith or his family, including wife Jada Pinkett Smith and son Jaden Smith to be trackside during the Grand Prix weekend.

Cyrus is expected to play on Friday March 13 at Lakeside Stadium.

Whispers from the GP pit say Kanye West was top of the grid wishlist to headline the World Tour concert with Williams.

All was poised to sign on the dotted line, but Page 13 hears negotiations fell over at the eleventh hour. West doesn’t come cheap and no chequebook could cover his huge Sunday Sessions entourage also required to be flown over privately.

Cyrus is no stranger Down Under.

Before marrying homegrown hottie Liam Hemsworth, Cyrus made headlines getting inked up at tattoo parlours, chowing down Phillip Island pies and generally gyrating on anything, including a giant hot-dog, on her 2014 Bangerz Aussie tour.

Hemsworth and Cyrus tied the knot in December 2018.

By August last year they where heading for divorce.

There was more drama following their split. Cyrus was with reality star Kaitlynn Carter, briefly, before pursuing a romance with her current boyfriend, Aussie Cody Simpson.

Days after her split with Hemsworth, Cyrus released break-up anthem, “Slide Away,” a not-so-subtle reference to her and failed relationship.

Cyrus and Hemsworth made it clear they were no longer romantically involved, but didn’t officially reach a divorce settlement until the end of December 2019.

Keeping up?

It’s complicated. No word if Simpson, perhaps most well known for winning last year’s Channel 10 reality show hit, The Masked Singer now plays the part of Cyrus’s torso-baring-boyfriend will be with here in Melbourne next month.

Tongues are wagging!
