A much-loved radio stalwart has been offered a gig too good to be true by Nova — the only problem the star will have is how early they will be setting his alarm clock.

Nothing takes long on the airwaves in radio.

So when much-loved radio stalwart Matt Tilley was offered a gig too good to be true by Nova’s maestro program director Rohan Brown over lunch last week he jumped at the chance, not only that we will be hearing him every weekday morning by the end of the month.

One of Melbourne’s biggest radio stars, so well known for his duo acts with Tracy Bartram, Jo Stanley and Meshel Laurie during his 20-odd year span on breakfast radio, is going solo.

Tilley yesterday told Page 13 he can’t wait to return but is pleased he won’t be setting the alarm clock.

“I missed it,” he said of not being on air. “But I wanted to return with something live and fresh.”

There will be no gotchya calls — “no one picks up to no caller IDs anyway,” Tilley laughed.

But he says it was imperative that if he returned after more than a year’s sojourn he wanted it to be fresh.

“It was important that I reinvent and be new. I’ve always looked at Nova as such a colossal rival to go up against when I was at other networks, so this is going to be fun.”

Tilley will follow the breakfast show Chrissie, Sam and Browny.
