YouTube sensation Mark Orval has opened up about his mental health battle in a new documentary.
Launched on Thursday night before a star-studded crowd, the documentary, called F@#k Off Mitchell! The Angry Dad Story, details his struggles in support of men’s health charity Movember.
Orval, aka Angry Dad, says his downward spiral was triggered after his footy career was cut short by injury after seven games with Collingwood.
“It’s 15 to 17-odd years of my life that without medication, I couldn’t function,’’ Orval said.
“At the same time I would put on this persona, get in the car and go to work and no one would have any idea. I almost lived two lives. I’ve got no doubt it is (common). The reason that I’ve decided to speak up is purely on the back of the exposure I’ve had through all the Angry Dad stuff.
“I would get 20-50 messages every week and have done for three to four years from people saying without those videos I would still be in this deep, dark spot but that laughter allows me to find the strength to pick myself up.”
Orval shot to fame in 2015 after his sons Dylan and Mitchell began uploading videos of his hilarious expletive-laden reactions to their constant pranks.
The launch of the documentary, directed by Aaron Lester Ellis and produced by Antoni Topic, was at Crown cinemas and attended by Shane Warne, Peter Siddle, Steph Claire Miller and Liam Picken.
Angry Dad’s Facebook page now boasts nearly 1.3 million followers.
