Hawthorn star Jack Ginnivan simply a down-to-earth bloke

Every move he makes on and off the field becomes a headline, but Jack Ginnivan says he’s just a down-to-earth bloke who is ready to put his feet up after footy season.

Every move he makes on and off the field turns into a headline, some more valid than others, but Jack Ginnivan insists he is really just a down-to-earth Aussie bloke.

While even he concedes he has some growing up to do after making a silly sledge on Instagram during the finals season and igniting an after-the-siren altercation with Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley, the Hawks forward with the cheeky smile, says he is ready to take it easy now.

Like most 21-year-olds, Ginnivan loves hanging with his mates, which is exactly what caught him up in another brouhaha on social media after he was pictured out at the pub before a game.

A similar incident happened at the races the year before on the eve of the grand final. But this time Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell and his teammates have his back, with Ginnivan saying it’s just his way to relax before a game, preferring that to sitting on the couch getting agitated and in his own head.

“Going out for dinner and hanging out with my mates is a thing I do on regular occurrence,” he said.

“If it’s before a game to make me not nervous, and sitting at home on the couch watching the footy is making me more nervous, then relaxing with my mates is a pretty easy decision to be honest.

“Having my coach’s support and all my teammates support has been the best thing for me.”

Born and bred in Castlemaine, Ginnivan said what he loved most was being outdoors and being active, revealing his excitement for the Boat Show as it returns to Docklands from October 17-20.

“Fishing has been a part of my life since I was a kid,” he said.

“Boats and the water have always felt like home to me. The Melbourne Boat Show is such a great event for anyone who loves getting out on the water.”

Next stop will be a post-season boys’ trip to Miami with players including Essendon’s Jye Caldwell, Matt Guelfi, Archie Perkins and Geelong’s Tanner Bruhn.
