DON Burke was allegedly able to get away with making the most repugnant propositions, and then some, to women because Burke’s Backyard was a river of gold that Channel 9 couldn’t bear to see dry up.

Nine may never admit it, but that’s what it looked like when a videotape turned up on the desk at the now defunct Australian version of America’s long-running scandal sheet, the National Enquirer.
PACKER CALLED BURKE TO ORDER HIM TO BEHAVE

The video showed Burke arriving at a young couple’s home to advise them on how they could improve their garden.
This involved removing tools from a garden shed, which Burke told the young woman would take her husband at least an hour to clear, which would give her time to “service” him.
“If you want to be on TV, you have to service me,” Burke told her matter-of-factly.
This was in Sydney in the 1980s and when her husband walked into the room, a burly 190cm rugby union player, she told him what Burke had preferred.
The husband asked if his wife was part of the deal and Burke replied “absolutely” — which is when the rugby player decked him. Lights out!
The video was taken by one of Burke’s camera crew. One of the National Enquirer journalists who saw it said the scandal sheet planned to, er, expose Burke. Gotcha!
But a resident snout at Australian Consolidated Press heard about the grubby video and ran straight to Kerry Packer who summoned the National Enquirer hacks to his office and demanded they hand over the VHS tape.
“But we’ve got him, boss,” they pleaded.
“No,” snarled the big fella as he stripped the tape out of the cassette and ground it into the carpet, muttering about advertising dollars before telling them all to “f--- off”.
This week, it was reported that Packer called the dirty gardening guru about his behaviour shortly after he offended swimming legend Susie O’Neill.
But how many dirty deeds were covered up to protect not only Burke, but Nine’s dollar deluge?
REALLY SEEDY STUFF
PLANT porn — Don Burke made millions out of it.
Or at least one steamy clip with a philodendron getting a, er, furious bush whacking, under the moonlight with Burke peering through the undergrowth barely able to contain his excitement (trust us, watch it).
Dirty memes and the clip Burke’s Backyard, Pollinating Philodendrons went viral this week.
Not that it’s the first time for the eye-popping plant (below left).
Long before the internet, the segment was getting sniggering airtime globally after appearing on the Graham Kennedy Show, with Burke’s production company CTC reaping the rewards.
