David Warner’s wife credits young daughter to husband’s recent success

David Warner is arguably in career-best form with the bat at the moment, and now his wife, Candice, has revealed the lucky charm that he can’t let go of.

David Warner gives emotional apology to Australia

David Warner’s lucky charm for the Boxing Day Test will be his little daughter Indi Rae.

Family comes first for the down-to-earth couple with Candice Warner telling Page 13 that three-year-old Indi Rae wants to help Dad get a ton of runs.

Forget lack of sleep, Indi snuggles in with her Dad the night before a big game and it works.

“They’ve had a pretty successful strike rate so I think that will happen again,” Candice says with pride.

One positive to come from David’s 12-month suspension was being able to spend more time with family.

“Indi Rae has formed a really strong bond with David and now they’re pretty much inseparable,” Candice said.

Speaking to the former multiple IronWoman winner you can hear Candice’s fierce protection for her husband in her voice.

She is passionate, safe to say the same for David, who let his emotions get the better of him when the sledging was directed towards Candice on that South African tour.

Those days are behind them and the Warners will do whatever it takes for David to play cricket at his best.

Their third child, Isla Rose, was born in the UK between the World Cup Series and the Ashes.

Coach Justin Langer practically gave them the day for when to give birth.

Candice laughed at the upheaval, saying that’s just what you do, as she upped and moved the family to the UK.

“We looked at the itinerary and schedule and thought that would be the best time for having Isla Rose and then thought, yep, that will do.

“David puts so much into his cricket, it means so much to him. I understand whatever it takes to be the best. If it means that you have to have a baby in a different country, you need to do it. Most people would do that for their partner.”

There is one place where the Warners do clash. On the treadmill.

“It’s good training together. We’re both really competitive, so when we’re on the treadmill we’ll look at whose heart rate is the highest or who has done the most steps per km.”

So who wins? Candice softens.

“I do a lot of steps, but he probably goes harder at times.”

Warner proved himself cricket’s half-marathon man, covering almost 21 kilometres during his record breaking innings of 335 not out against New Zealand in Adelaide.

Candice says it will be great for David to return to the hallowed turf of the MCG.

“We’re just really happy to be part of it all again. Every time you get to watch your husband play cricket at the MCG it’s amazing.”

Expect an amazing innings!
