SOCCER superstar David Beckham will bend his magic around Melbourne later this year.
Whether Posh will join her husband on the October trip has not been decided, but we hope the sourpuss will also show a shapely leg at the Spring Racing Carnival.
Beckham in the Birdcage? Maybe.
WILL QUARTERMAIN TACKLE SPORTS TONIGHT GIG?
After hanging up his boots at LA Galaxy, following stardom playing for Manchester United and Real Madrid and captaining England, David Beckham has taken Brand Beckham to even greater heights.
He has built a fashion and luxury empire with brands and businesses still clamouring to have him endorse their products.
The sporting icon signed with insurance company AIA last year as their “global ambassador” and is coming to Australia for talks and appearances as part of a Healthy Living campaign.
Page 13 got the tip from our thoroughbred racing contacts, who are hoping to showcase the star at the Melbourne Cup.
But whether sponsors or marquees have the cash to splash is another matter.
Moves were made to bring a Beckham to the Birdcage some years ago, but even back then “Posh and Becks” had a price tag of well over $1 million.
But the timing is right with AIA bringing Beckham out just before the Spring Racing Carnival opens.
AIA begrudgingly confirmed the whispers to Page 13 yesterday before saying they needed to speak to their Hong Kong bosses.
But then, we have a knack for announcing these things before anyone else finds out.
Beckham was last here in 2011, playing an exhibition match against Melbourne Victory with his LA Galaxy team (a $260 million deal).
It was in La La Land that the Beckhams morphed into Hollywood royalty and became Brand Beckham.
The Footy Show’s Shane Crawford will play a part in hosting duties for the planned Beckham tour.
Crawf worked with AIA for several years as a corporate ambassador.
Bend it like Beckham!
