Straight from the horse’s mouth.
Journalist turned media tycoon Craig Hutchison’s Crocmedia is in million-dollar discussions with Racing Victoria about a dedicated racing radio station.
Hutchison has a stable relationship with many on the Racing Victoria board who are believed to be prepared to back his grand plans.
Hutchison is cashed up and ready to back a new station with the working title of SEN Track.
SEN already broadcasts 22 race meetings a year, but Hutchison has a healthy appetite and wants more.
Channel 7 and racing.com guru Jason Richardson is believed to have been approached by Hutchy’s team to front the station.
A sticking point is getting Hutchy’s proposed station approved, given that RSN 927 is the established 24/7 racing channel in this state.
RSN 927 is backed by betting giant, Tabcorp, and is the favoured listening post for those with a form guide permanently stuck in their back pocket.
Racing Victoria likes Hutchison’s vision but is understood to be baulking at allowing him to do Victorian racing initially.
They’re willing to back him to take their product into other states which is the most likely first phase of SEN Track.
Hutchison was “unavailable for comment” when we called.
Page 13 even trotted down to Racing Victoria’s annual luncheon at the Glasshouse on Friday where Fiona McIntyre was crowned the 2020 Lady of Racing.
We asked around. No one would say yes but no one said neigh!
